| yes it is pretty scary when one gets weak and sick. but you are doing what you can, you did take him to the vet . give it time for the shot antibiotic's to kick in. just make sure he stays warm and gets his feeding from his mom. and get him some nutri drops they will help him out a lot. and just keep checking on him often. and be very careful with that heat lamp. I don't care much for those I like the heating pad on low better. |

| Little ones can be so touchy and so durable at the same time. I have a litter 3 weeks with one runt she is only 9 ounces . I had to get up every couple of hours clear the path for her to nurse I always put her on the back teats and wait till the milk let down and she got a good meal. Now she is doing well and can fend for herself. What antibiotics did your vet put the pup on ( Amoxi)? A Shot should take 24 hrs to start to work. A light tapping of the chest or ribs sometimes will help break up any fliud they have in there. Only one finger is needed kinda like burping them. Very lightly I use a heating pad also much better they can move away if to hot or move to get more heat. keep her warm, tummy full and with momma , hope the pup starts to improve for you I use nutri drops also they work great one drop 2 times a day. You can only do your best sometimes it is enough and other times it is not. Last edited by 011011; 11-06-2009 at 04:55 AM. |

| I'm glad to hear the puppy's tummy is full and round. That is a good sign he is getting enough to eat and that what you are doing is working. Is he still raspy this morning?

When I have atiny one, I remove the others for 5 minutes, every 2 hours to make sure he gets to eat first. Then I put the rest back, but keep my hands around him so the others do not push him off. I do this day and night, every 2 hours. I also make sure that he gets the plumbest teat so he does not have to struggle to get milk.

They will just naturally move twoard the warmth so if they are not going to the heated area, it is because it is too hot.

| Thats the way I feel too. I am in awe of the breeder that can do it. My only experience with breeding was recently when my cat had a litter of kittens. We lost every one of them but one and that one wouldnt wean and I had to force feed it and bottle feed it because the mother stopped nursing. It is alot keeping up with feeding one i cant imagine doing it with a whole litter. Plus I think some people have a gift of saving weak animals and try as hard as I did I dont think I have that gift. Anyway best of luck with your little guy, youve gotten some good advice. Just keep him warm and eating and youll be okay

| I hope he continues to get better. I know how sad it is to see these babies suffer. My first litter was full of ups and downs...we lost 3 out of 4. Please keep us posted on his progress. Hugs! Tammy |
