This is why some breeders will Not sell to those with kids PERIOD.
And It hurt those who do have well behaved kids that have been taught to respect all living things.

I don't honestly believe Yorkies should be sold to homes with young kids because I have seen what happens if it doesn't work out. I would also make sure the whole family came to pick out a puppy to see how the relationship goes. I have seen breeders on YT turn a family away once they saw how the kids acted around the puppies.


As, breeders you try to place your pup in the best possible home but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way.
I've been cussed before because I refused to sell to someone after I found out they lied.

It must be awful to have people do that to you but it is your job to protect these dogs you brought into this world.

I've known of other breeder who refused to place a pup with someone and that person would get someone else to try to purchase the dog for them.

In rescue many of the different groups kept lists of these people ... I wish more breeders would do this.

Checking out homes would be fine if the home is close enough to you but there are time when the dog goes to another state and checking out the home is just not possible.
At those times you just have to go with your gut feeling.

It takes a lot for a reputable rescue to adopt out of state but they do have rescues in other states do home visits.

I just think breeders should be as tough as reputable rescue's in placing their dogs.

I recently talked to a breeder who bred greyhounds. One of her puppies was turned over to a shelter a molnth after she sold it. they paid $600 for the dog than gave it to the shelter. I am now considering microchipping my puppies.

Did this breeder call the vet? call animal control, ask for any references? or did she just sell a dog.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your friend that is horrible . This is why I am so strict with my pups. . One of the homes I didn't approve had a boy who was very rough with animals. Even though I haven't found a forever home for Volcom our last up left I don't regret being so strict.

I am worried though and hope he does go to loving home soon.

I did think it was interesting about the Greyhounds because in my entire life I have never know someone to buy a Greyhound as a pet. It wasn't until I moved to Arizona (hugh on dog races) that I learned the majority of all Greyhounds are bred for the race track and if the dogs do not produce...they are euthanized. Florida and Arizona are the two big states with this. There are a few rescue group trying to rehome these dogs but more are destroyed because they cannot race fast enough. They make wonderful pets and I would encourage anyone to adopt a retired Greyhound. They just can never be left off of their leads but for the most part they are just big couch potatoes..My neighbors had a rescued one and he was scared to death of my Yorkies..it was a hoot. If I didn't have the Yorks...I definately would have retired Greyhounds...sweet, sweet dogs.

My niece adopted a female Greyhound that "wasn't fast enough". Most days when I stop at my niece's house Dulce is sacked out on the sofa wearing her pink tutu. Talk about spoiled!!

Oh Lord...you have to get a picture of that..to funny. I know my neighbor always walked her Greyhound with a hat and for Halloween he was a ghost...he was so cool...love those dogs.

iT'S HORRIBLE THAT THIS HAPPENED TO THIS BREEDER. You can't be to careful but con artist are every where EVEN MY OWN SISTER !!! i told my mother I would give her one of my yorkies if she wanted one, but she didn't want one, she had to put down her fox terrier after 15 years and she said she didn't want to go thru that pain ever again. that was 15 years ago. Now my sister found out from my mother that I had offered a yorkie to my mother and she tried to get my mother to get one and then give it to her, because I wouldn't give one her one of my puppies !! when my mother told me about it, my sister and I got into fight. I would never give her one of my puppies because her husband is a drug addict and I 'm afraid he would sell it for drug money, plus they don't any $ for vet bills, once her husband pawned their new stove for drug $ so I don't trust them. You just have to careful and trust your gut.

She did not call animal control, do you think that help?
I am not sure, i never heard of the shelters doing this here. But yes, she tried her best to select. People learn to give proper answers and have their ways you know.

I am suspicious that these people are on the "looking" for another puppy. I wish i knew Mass breeders and rescuers to warn them privately , unfortunately i can not disclose her name here otherwise i would. HELP !!! If anyone knows any breeders around this area please send me a private message so i can give you this lady's name. LETS HELP SAVE ANOTHER PUPPY FROM HER HANDS !!!!!

Have you done a google search for Yorkie rescue? or Yorkie breeders? The problem is, you need to be careful...this did not happen to you but your friend. This family could take you to court so your friend really should be the one to send the letters to these different organizations.

Some breeders call animal control and ask if there are any complaints against people looking to purchase...some locations will say yes or no. I think breeders should be getting referrals and they should be calling these people along with the vet. The one other thing is...trust your gut when it comes to people and don't let your nice voice in your head override your decision.

Thanks for the advice. I sure do not want to get in trouble but i know, our guts are telling us she is in the look out for another puppy. So very sad.

We have been blessed with 3 litters and 7 pups...3 we have kept and the other 4 are with folks here that we have known for years and get to see on a reg. basis, so I know the pups/adult dogs now, are doing great....but a situation here at my home just 4 days ago, makes you understand just how quickly something COULD happen to one of these babies...I have my little sweet Suki, one of my females I kept. She is 3 pounds and is 1 1/2 old..My stepmother came by with my very hyper hellian nephew who is 3 years old...sm was talking and never broke stride during this whole event even though she was looking straight at the nephew (her grandson)..he kept trying to grab Suki who was hiding behind my feet..I was telling him "no" over and over, not to pick her up and just to look at her...he is totally ignoring me...Suki pees in the floor because she is terrified of this child, and she has never even been around him...he quickly grabs her, pulls her from around the back of my feet, has her by the neck, I then shout "NO, you cannot hold her"! I have my hands around her tiny body supporting her, he still has her by the neck, 3 feet of the ground, he sees something on the counter he wants and just lets go of her not even realizing I have her weight supported! SM never acknowledged to him that what he did was wrong...She left immediately after, I'm sure because she was disgusted that I yelled at the little guy...but I can see where this could have been a tragic event if I hadn't been standing there to intervene!! I could have pulled him aside and explained how to appropriately hold a small dog or to listen when someone says "NO"..but I see them twice a year, he lives with her...and well, he doesn't behave well with dogs anyway...My brother lives with them also and has 3 King Charles Cavaliers and he tells me that the child constantly kicks them.... Sorry if got off on a rant here...my point was just to reinforce most children and small dogs don't mix, especially with guardians that refuse to enforce dicipline and don't monitor the interactions between them...

I totally agree! We rescued a greyhound back in 1997(?), and she was the best pet. She was 4 years old, and we were told she must have been a good race dog, because most are put down by 2 if they aren't good racers. Someone brought her to a vet's office to have her put down, and the staff were looking for homes for them. We got her because we had heard that Greyhounds were good for people with allergies, and we had small kids at the time and wanted a dog that wouldn't get stepped on. She was wonderful! My daughter wants one when she has her own house. We had her for 8 years before we had to have her put down because of cancer. They are wonderful pets, and when we got our first Yorkie she was fine with him. She didn't even have a problem when the kid's hamsters escaped and ran across the floor in front of her. She just whined to let us know it was out. This post brought back good memories.
