Your comments about the male being all over her indicate that you are not as experienced as you claim to be. Or you would know that this is typical for an inexperienced male. You would also know at which stage in her cycle she would be ovulating, and why she is not allowing him to tie. And you would know that the amount of blood has nothing to do with the tie.

I'm glad that you are asking questions, but you really should have done the homework before now.

First of all I knew what he was doing...I did not help him for a reason...at least not right now....another reason like i said (and the reason for the question) she has bleed light but never this light and no dog(s) I have had before never bleed this light I was wondering if that would interfere with matting. So if I never had Angel or Cher to bleed this way....and the first time Princess is this light ( and I mean she was light) that is why I was wondering....I just thought I would ask to find out...goodness...

I know breeders from all over the country and in TN and the term tying has always been used by experienced breeder....never heard the term locking, not among any of the breeders I know anyway.

Me either, there have been 'hooked up" and "stuck together" and OMG what happened" LOL but this is the first time I have heard "locked"

You are missing the point. A breeder with your experience would have known the answer to this question, if they had done their homework first. You would have learned that while doing your research. You would have also seen the term "tie" repeatedly during your research.

Having mated other dogs before does not make you a "breeder". A professional researches and learns before getting into something.

I had only 1 person on here to really come close to know what I was asking....the important thing is that I did get my answer... so after this thread is closed and in the past I will take yet another break from here. I came on and placed a reply here and there but not much lately. I even got people to join here....anyway I think this was my mistake cause I did read my first post ( I just thought I did not have to type everything in). Anyway I got what I need here at home...thanks anyway!

I don't think anyone has jumped on you, just asking you to clarify your question. People are willing to answer your questions, but you must be clear in what you're asking. As JeannieK stated the question you asked was not misinterpreted and the answer is very elementary one for people that have bred and studied yorkie reproduction. Each yorkie female is different and on an average their bleeding portion of their cycle is very light. Most of the time I only catch mine because I know their cycles and handle and check them daily, not because they have begun to show color.

As you've said you've bred other breeds before, toy breeds are different, especially the yorkie.

locking is just what i have heard....but as for tie i did i just forgot about the word for ex. www.akc.org/breeders/resoureses/guide_to_breeding_your_dog/step_8.cfm is just one...my g.mother got me and my sis hooked on locked and my mother too....its all i heard here plus I know some other people around here use lock...i said i did not heard of tie but when i look at my notes it is in there...so sorry...need to re-read them..doing so now! and to who ever said toy breeds are differ I agree....can tell a big differance.... my border collie was nothing like any of this and my peekapoo she was over 10 pounds not that bad...this is differ I agree. Like I said I just got a email saying this had more post so I checked thanks for the help with the word....going over my notes again...read often but like I said when you hear 1 word all the time that is what you go with. Also got alot of ifo from yorkieviews.com and books I have is wonderful..i am going to go and re-read some...but when I looked over the notes i did see the word tie....my mistake

In comparison to your Border Collie and Peekapoo? Yes, it is quite different. Yes it is completely different in so many aspects. The risks and issues with Yorkies are very unique and specific to the breed, as is the case with any dog.

I find this whole thread a bit concerning. It seems as if you are missing the main point that several of the experienced breeders here are trying to convey to you. Hmmm, how to put this delicately.... I realize that you claim to be experienced and well researched, and I'm in no way trying to accuse you of being anything but truthful with those statements, but based on the comments and questions you have asked, it seems as if maybe several others have picked up on tell tale signs that you are not as prepared as you think you are or as you could/should be. Something that experiences breeders would be able to easily pick up on, no? Unfortunately, it also seems that you are set in your decision, convinced that you are as prepared as you need to be and I doubt that anyone here will sway you to consider otherwise. That being said, I sincerely hope that everything works out to suit the best interests of your female and I encourage you to always strive to keep that as your primary concern.

I am unsure as to why no one knows "locking" it refurs to being stuck or "tied" I am a vet tech locking is often the term used even in text but tied is more so used with breeders.

When time is near I always check for swelling then when it is evident
I wipe with tissue after going potty to check for color (mine dont ever leave "evidince")

Be sure of the swelling I had a recent experince with a bitch who was comming to me for service and gave no signs from my experinced studs my newbe and her stud was all over her for a month we walk together every sunday. it was a pain to say the least.

ANYWAYS she came 3 times twice she wasn't ready then a visit to the vet identified the ACTUAL bleeding was a bladder infection after it cleared and a year later we have beautiful babies

I could have done without mine and his deliveriing at the same time it was his 1st litter he purchased a stud from me after our 1st miss but he didnt seem to interested so I offered up my male an had planned to be there with him but our new 1st time mommy was having trouble so I couldn't leave. we had 2 litters of M M F in that order.
