If she is bleeding she is not ready yet. She should stand for him in about a week.

Mine have very little bleeding they keep themselves very clean.

You should research and read everything you can find on breeding. If you have been planning to breed, you should have already researched the reproductive cycle of dog.

I don't mean to sound judgemental, but you should have already done your homework.

I have to agree with JeanieK on this one. If you have to ask these types of questions, then you are not prepared to breed.

Giving your male open access to your female as you have described is a VERY bad idea. A breeding pair should be supervised at all times when they are attempting to tie and should not be allowed to do so more than once each day.

I would suggest you continue researching, maybe find a breeding mentor to work with FIRST.

I missed my post up it posted this 2x's and thought the other did not post so I wrote this one....
No you do not sound judgemental.....its not that I didn't study cause I have for 2 yrs and been with other breeders and breed other dogs before...I have just never had this to happen..... some say some dogs dont bleed and she does and has before....but not like this....never this light.... that is why i was wondering....

She is not bleeding and I put him w/her cause of that...I have been watching them...they stay indoors and with us all the time.... I was wondering if the amount of blood had to do with locking or not.....that's all....

The amount of blood really has nothing to do with it, as they can start out slow and increase as days go on. What you should be concerned with is the brightness of the blood....it starts out light and then intensifies then diminishes to a brownish or pink color (breeding time, usually on the 10th day from the onset of showing color). I wouldn't be leaving them unsupervised at all during this time. Breeding should only be done every other day and with assistance. With a maximum of 3 breedings ( I prefer only 2)

Yeah I just talked to a breeder here (home town) and she told be the amount had no effect.....they are in own crates watching TV right now with us. We never leave own babies unsupervised at all...breeding time or not...they are our babies....I knew about the color already....it was just the amount.....but I got what ya mean... I am not sure if I stated it right or if the why I word it.....not sure if I done that wrong....but I think you had to the closes of what I was asking......but not exactly....but close....anyway I got my answer so.....thanks anyway....GOD BLESS!

You do say the male is humping when "they" are alone...and now you say they are "not" left alone? Either they are alone when he tries to mate or they are not...which is it? Sorry to sound this way but you said in your first post they are alone and then several posts later after it was made reference that they are never alone unsupervised....I guess I read in black and white...

When I place them in the crate (like when we went to town or my g.mother's : my kids(teenage daughter was here but I crate them cause she does watch other 2 kids for me) he starts humping (all over here face, side, ect) Cassandra said when he started she removed him. So we tried again before I got here to crate for we could eat dinner and he statred again but no locking. Sometime she did not care if he tried other times she got mad. We got other crate out and they where fine. They play on porch and in the house fine. I was just wondering cause of light bleeding if that would have any effect on locking....I got my answer. It is hard to ask questions on here cause you end up having to tell every little detail or something get started. Not just myself but others have been on here for help and seems they do go else where. So yes when they where "alone" yes he tried. But on break and when I say break I mean when we where home (past 4 days now) they have not been alone but maybe 2 or 3 times but my oldest girl was here to keep an eye on them (in the livingroom is where they stayed). She knows cause we have done this in the past with other breeds just first time with yorkies. I like I said I got my answer.....I have a friend at church that breed yorkies, a cousin that breeds, and my sister and her hubby breed championshiop ( no longer breeds but done it for a long time). They where not at home last night when I first called but after I got on here and did get the call....so like I said never mind......

Glad you got your question answered. The proper breeder term is not locking but tying.

I think everyone felt that was a pretty elementry question from someone with so much breeding expertise.

Before I started breeding, I did a lot of research and reading and knew what to look for during the heat cycle.

Your comments about the male being all over her indicate that you are not as experienced as you claim to be. Or you would know that this is typical for an inexperienced male. You would also know at which stage in her cycle she would be ovulating, and why she is not allowing him to tie. And you would know that the amount of blood has nothing to do with the tie.

I'm glad that you are asking questions, but you really should have done the homework before now.

I own both dogs....dna both dogs....done this before just not with yorkies.... hand raised animals from birth cause the mother got killed by a hawk (they are all healthy and at new homes we kept one of them)....we have 3 breeds that we know that are close to us....i just never had a dog to bleed like this...like I said her cycles always have been light just not like this...never had a dog w/cycle this light....plus it was already like a brown color her cycle I knew she was about to come into heat but came in early this time ....like I said she ALWAYS cleans herself and I did notice she was swollen, etc. it just snuck up on me. Even though she always cleaned herself I would still see some blood (not to sound smart but surely I do not have to go into details on this....) anyway as stated we where just coming back from 1 last appt. w/her and she had blood on my girl's pants it was light very light not much at all...so when we got home I checked her and sure enough..I can not believe that it could be so light that we would not notice cause she sleeps on the couch and with the kids. Plays on our bed...I would have seen some blood. I was wondering if her light cycle would have anything to do with them locking that's all... I took a small break from here cause it seemed a lot of people kept getting "jumped on" or seems like they where defending theirselves after asking a question. I can see where I missed the words up and did not state word for word. My mistake. I had only 1 person on here to really come close to know what I was asking....the important thing is that I did get my answer... so after this thread is closed and in the past I will take yet another break from here. I came on and placed a reply here and there but not much lately. I even got people to join here....anyway I think this was my mistake cause I did read my first post ( I just thought I did not have to type everything in). Anyway I got what I need here at home...thanks anyway!
