I got it at GNC, my holistic vet told me to have it handy when I told him about Taffy's story, her story is all in my blog besides the traditional whelping kit mine also had the holistic recomendations of my vet.. the tea is called Organic Raspberry Leaf and I made a cup following the instructions and cooled it off outside she had the babies last January, and mixed it with a bit of whelping puding that she loves and gave it to her, and like a miracle about 20 minutes later she had contractions agan and the placenta came out. she had no need to go to the regular vet, my son came home that afternoon and checked her and gave her a clean whelping bill... it did cost me dinner..:p but after a worrisome few weeks life was good, I kept one of the babies the runt and he is GORGEOUS.. now I am breeding my silkie terrier in the next few days but I feel a LOT more ready and prepared, she passed all the pre mating test and harry boy too.. so now is a matter of waiting for the RIGHT day..LOL:D |
u go girl and carmen saves the day again :D lol im going to write that in my little yorkie notes note book im so for holistic stuff vs medication:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: |

Thanks very much for all the great info! It's been many years since I have experienced a litter being born. I think I may be not understanding something tho....Each pup is attached to it's own placenta via the cord. If the placenta doesn't come out before the next one is born.....is that not dangerous? When that happens does it mean that the placenta broke off and is still in mom? If the placenta is still in mom and the pup is out.....is THAT when you cut it? Or cut only after placenta and pup are out together? |
Generally it is not a problem but sometimes I have had a puppy come out with it's placenta and it also had the previous pups placenta wrapped around it. It is pretty scary looking. This site explains a little about retained placentas: RETAINED PLACENTA* - Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - |
Question: My girl tied last weekend twice. I believe that she tied in the first days of opportunity. Today...nearly a week later she was standing still for my neighbors dog....he sniffed her alot but never tried to mount her. Do dogs that tie a couple times still flag and stand still a week later??? I was under the impression that the "flagging" days and "good tie days" were only about three or so days long. |
Females are in heat 3 weeks. Many females will continue to flag and breed (if allowed) all the way to the end of there heat cycle. I have heard a number of times of females accepting a male even beyond the 3 weeks. Make sure you keep all males away from her for at least 3 weeks from the beginning of her heat cycle. |

Boys...stay away, lol....Yeah, I don't ever leave her alone....only in the house. Thanks for your reply! |

Yes, they do ( but all females are different). Tayah was the same way this time. She is still flagging and she is on day 17 of her cycle (still early). I am still keeping Tayah and Harley seperate until they both calm down. Harley seems to be ok but Tayah still puts her bum in his face and gets him worked up enough to get on and try. We are looking at maybe another week before letting them together. So the best way is to introduce them back together slowly. Maybe through a gate at first and then in a room where they can't run too far away. This way you can get to them if needed. You should know right away if they will be ok together. This is what I do at home! |
I got my Raspberry Tea from Revival Animal Health. They have a great syrup there that is good for pregnant females. I gave it during Ellie's pregnancy and she did great. She delivered 5 puppies within 2 hours. |

Good luck with your possible pregnancy. I am expecting a litter in November if everything went right with the mating this past week. |
Thank you.. I am very excited, this is my Chanel's second heat so she is new and inexperience, but my stud is an experienced one, so hopefully she will mate with him and give me grand puppies..LOL I heard of the syrop but used the tea instead, i am going to revival to check , thanks, Carmen in nj |
Questions: My girl tied almost 2 weeks ago. She has been acting VERY odd these last couple days.... I have a collie dog that has a room by my entrace...my yorkie sits in there ALL the time (which she NEVER does) and gives out little barks. She is spending so much of the day doing that. Anyone have thoughts as to why she would start that now? Also, does the start, middle and end of heat cycle alter their weight? Before she was bred (bleeding stage) she was 5.2 at the vet office. I have a digital scale at home and in the two weeks since breeding she is 4 oz up! What the heck??? |
....in addition to my previous post questions: I just thought the other night that if it's winter and the pups need to go to the vet for anything or around day 3 for docking.....isn't it too cold for them to be out! The only outside they would be for is from vehicle into vet clinic. How do you be sure they are warm enough???? I have two questions above as well....in addition to the one about her acting odd....she's also waking me up at all hours of the night! In all my time of having her she has NEVER gotten up at night...not even as a puppy! |
Females always have a change of personality after being in heat. The weigh gain sounds normal. I dock my own puppy's tails at home so I don't have to take mine out in the cold. Some people warm up rice bags to put in with the pups to help keep them warm when they take them out. Really, if you warm up your vehicle before you leave and make sure they are covered well with blankets, I think they should be okay going to the vet when the time comes. |
Ok, thanks! I am reading alot of old threads and have come across this "puppy shake" or something. Looks to me like when a puppy isn't breathing then you kinda pumped it down or something. I will youtube it but I was wondering what it is called and how do you determine whether or not the pup needs it? Also, does that motion not rattle their little brains? Does it cause their brains harm? |

YES! SWING! That is what I was reading about! Thanks, lol. Ok, I need/want to learn and read/watch about this. Any info would be great. |
you can ask an experience breeder to show you.. or ask your vet to show you the right way, is not dificult but it has to be done right in order not to harm the puppy.. I was very lucky that my mentor had a litter born days before my taffy was due.. but my son was teaching me the right way also, he made me practice and practice..and I really apreciate it now..but nothing like really watching someone with a puppy for you to apreciate the right way..:) hopefully you will not have to use it but is better to be prepared. |
Thanks for the info....I am going to get my vet to demonstrate that to me a few times :) Honestly, the waiting to find out if she's "with pups" is killing me. I need to learn some patience, lol. |

yes, is a last resort but is good to learn it, I did not have to use it when Taffy's babies were born but still have it in my head and have a feel of it in case one of my other births don't go as smooth, so is something you want to learn and keep in mind..when everything else fails.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
