| akc registration I have a new pup that has AKC registered parents. Is there any point in paying for AKC papers for the pup if he is only going to be a pet? |

| it is a personal choice. AKC papers are always important to me regardless of what I plan for the puppy. If it truly does not matter, then no you don't need them. But there might come a day when you wish you had them. |

| I certanily don't mind paying the money for the papers but if the dog is nutered what circumstances can you think of that the papers would come in handy? Not trying to be smart just wondering? Last edited by jacquelinebabco; 09-01-2009 at 10:06 AM. |

AKC has many other benefits to registering them, including a complimentary vet appointment, and tons of information for you, and by registering you are helping support many great programs and I am pasting some of them here, but you can view them all at www.akc.org. | I would think Identify the dog is yours. I have sent all mine in, whether or not I plan to breed or not. Just to prove they are mine. My dachshund is AKC, 10 years old, and spayed, but I have her papers. It's a personal choice.

I would like to see more pet owners becoming members of the AKC rather than just breeders. Pet owners are often more concerned about certain problems than either breeders or animal rights groups. Pet owners really love dogs, and love having pets, not all breeders love dogs, and not all animal rights groups think we should have pets. In the future, with DNA testing, I'm hopeful we will learn more about genetic diseases because we will have a great record of dogs' ancestries. They are already doing this with human populations with areas known to be closely related, but with dogs we even have a better knowledge of the ancestries than we do humans, and in a decade we can produce many generations. Overall, when you support the AKC, you are supporting good breeding practices, plus, you get a cute little tag!

| Shoot I paid 35$ for our Bull terrier's registry. But it's not a big deal, I wonder why it cost me 35 though. I think it is nice to support the AKC and to have that little bit of info on your dog. I like to be able to see the pedigree just for fun. |

You are all gracious to take the time to share and I appreciate all of you. I will send in my support thanks to all of you. |

| Thank you, Honeykisses, FLDebra and Nancy1999!! Those are all the reasons that I registered Toto! The AKC is prestigeous and I believe that they are trying to improve. I believe that is says a lot about Toto's bloodline and the dedication that Ava has had in 30+ years of working to perfect that bloodline! I am very proud of my little - TyAva's Out of Oz, Toto and all the champions in her bloodline. I fully believe that her ancestors wouldn't have been champions had they not been some of the best representation of the breed!! Thanks again, ladies!
