| Yay for your first tail docking! My first time was horrible, the puppies just screamed and screamed. I held while Hubby dig the actual docking. The dew claws I had to do myself. I am so afraid of cutting too much off! In this past litter I had 2 or 3 grow back (its hard to do when they are squirming - never will I do it alone again!). But honestly, Max has one dew claw and I have never had an issue and it rarely needs to be trimmed.

| You are very brave. I just had my puppies at the vet today for the tail docking and declaws. I was so nerveous for them. They were crying all the way home and I felt so bad for them. My vet only charges $15.00 per puppy and I have 6 of them. The crying has now stopped and they are eating and resting comfortable. Congratulation to you on a job well done! |

| Glad it went well for you. I still take mine to the vet for tails and dew claws. My vet is pretty reasonable on the cost plus I like having him give the pups a good looking-over. I have had to sign a form from the AVMA the last couple of times, though.

| Good job! I've been doing my own tails and dewclaws for quite some time now. I found it to be MUCH easier on the puppies. I didn't have to stress them out or mom out with a trip to the vet. Plus, you can get the tails the proper length. For me, that first tail was the hardest. The way it felt when I was twisting it kinda bothered me. Now, I don't even think about it. If you can do tails, I have no doubt that you can do dewclaws!

I know I should be.. but I will watch the video.. my problem is I have only so far had at most a litter per year.. not enough for me to get comfortable doing one litter then waiting a year to do it again...just too long a wait... anne |
