Tail docking ... my first experience. It all start when my vet increased the price for tail docking from $10, to $20, to $50 per dogs in 2 years! And now my new vet don't do it at all So today was the day, the puppies are 4 days old. After watching Nathalie's tail docking video many, many times, I when for it. Whelping/Tail Dock Video I used the medical clamps to squeeze the tail, twist, twist, twist, a drop of Clotisol and that was it. No blood and a little crying but not the yell I was expecting. The puppies are all doing fine. I was terrified, but I got over my fear and did it. :D Learning how to breed and take care of a litter really is a lifelong journey. I feel like today... I took and other step forward... Just want to share that special moment with you all. ;) |
I have been encouraged to try docking myself, but have not yet taken that plunge. My vet also discourages docking and I think the day will come where he refuses to do it as your does. I have considered just not having their tails docked at all as a result. How scary was it? |
Good for you. I have been watching tail docking on YouTube (the same video to be exact)to be prepared cause the vets around here wont do it. I'll have my aunt (she's a vet) on the phone while the whelping is happening as well as when I'm doing the docking. I think once the fear of actually doing it wears off I will be fine doing it with all my litters. Congrats on having the guts to do it! |
I am glad the docking when well. The first time is the hardest. Did you remove the dew claws too? |

Oh my goodness. Good job on your first tail docking! I just watched the video and I don't think I could bring myself to do it. I'm so squeamish! |

I give you lots of credit! I can deal with blood, guts, puke and poop, but I definitely know I could not do what you did . . .there is just no way! I watched the video you posted and I also watched a whelping video on You Tube where the breeders did the dew claws as well . . .and NOPE, not for me . . .:p |
OH WOW you are brave! Good for you. I think I would want to do it myself if I was going to breed all the time I would want to learn. |

I never ask my vet dew claws my litters.I leave it on. But I think if I knew how to do it myself I would of do it too this morning. |
Congradulations!!! If you've done the tails, I'm positive that you can do the dew claws. Just snip, clotisol and done... That's it!!! |

tail docking congrats - good job. My vet assistant taught me tails and dew claws. I've been doing mine for over a year now and it's a breeze. I still get nervous though. :aimeeyork |
