| Did you say you live in McKinney? Wonderful well known handler lives out where you do. Brian Livingston.....He's handled wonderful dogs in Eukanuba, Westminster, etc. He is listed on a website....and he's always in need of help. Yes, and he does handle yorkies.....His family has been handling for years and Brian started out much younger than you are.

| ~Isabella..... I know your 11 years old and think it's a neat idea to breed yorkies, but Miley is way too small for that. She should be spayed. Because if anything happened to her, I know you would be so upset. You do seem older than your age, but you still have a long way to go before you should even consider breeding. It is very expensive, with all the tests the boy and girl dog need before you can put them together, the Vet bills, shots, sickness, and alot more. In the next several years, learn as much as you can. Maybe go to some dog shows in your area. Get to know some of the handlers and see if you can assist. And when you are older and have a job and learned everything there is to know and still want to breed, find a mentor that lives close to you. What does your Mom say about this? I would take that $95 you have saved up and use it towards Mileys spay. |

| Hi, I'm new to this forum and my little Yorkie name is Lulu, To be quite honest, I don't have much knowledge and I'm learning about Yorkies, how often do usually they get pregnant ( months ?? ) As my Lulu is female I'm trying to research and learn as much I can in order to be able to do a good job when she gets pregnant. Any advise will be appreciated, thank you so much I attached a pic of her. |

I wouldn't even be considering breeding IF I don't even know how long a dog is pregnant for. Dogs are pregnant from 61-64 days and they can get pregnant twice a year as they only come into heat twice a year. You shouldn't breed a yorkie that is under 5 lbs unless you want alot of complications which can STILL arise. | |

| Oh wow a lot of people posted here and I wasnt gone that long. Anyway, today I did a few things to see if she would like showing. It turns out that she loves and is very good at the trotting around in the circle thing. Only thing is, she is afraid of heights. About the breeding thing, My mom/dad would pay for her to be spayed, and I have read like, well I lost count but a lot of articles and stuff on breeding dogs and yorkies. What do you mean by assisting the handler? Like I know what you are talking about by it, but I have never heard of that. I will look into Junior Showmanship or what ever it was called and that guy I forgot what you said his name was. Back to the breeding thing, my mom says its fine with her and my dad says " If you want more dogs, the best way is for Miley to have puppies" I told him that she is too tiny but he said she will be fine. Oh, and this is a little random, but one of my pet peeves is when people tell me to spay my dog. Ok I was not planning on making my post thins long. |

| Oh and whats weird is, every time I want to breed an animal, its always too young or too old. (or too small). My ancient bird, Sky, laid eggs, but she accientlly crushed them and she was really old. But she still really wants to be a mommy. And Miley is too young and too small. |

YT Addict | There is always a lot of negativity when someone asks a breeding question on here everyone goes into attack mode i seem to think. You are young but im not going to put you down for being young i thinks its great you have a love and interest about yorkies. Just because your young doesn't mean you cant do things you start young and know more when you get older. If your mom and dad have your back and will pay the vet bills and will help you then its solely your choice. Your girl is 3.5 pounds at 10 months i know my females grew when they hit a year old she was 2.8 at 10 months and now at 1 year and 4 months she is 3.6 she is not fat she just grew more. Some dogs grow more and some dogs are done at 10 months. There is alot in breeding dogs you need to do your research and with her being that small you need to make sure the male is much smaller than her like 2 pounds. You need to know that you can loose her if you breed her because she is small and you can loose the pups. if you do or don't want to spay your dog is up to you and your parents. Just make responsible choices. they are living things and we don't want dogs dieing needlessly or puppies that don't have homes because of irresponsible breeding. Or unhealthy dogs because you don't know her background who are her parents who are the males parents you think you might breed her with stuff like that. Its A lot to think of hun.. |

| Why do people call me hun? Im not that young. And yeah I noticed that too, on pretty much every website with forums and people ask questions about breeding, people always reply with spay her and all that. I told my mom about how we might have to pay $1000+ for C-section emergancy vet visits and stuff. She said well we'll have to wait for when that time comes then. But what if that time isnt when Miley is ready (in heat)? I know it is good to wait for her second heat to start or when shes 2 years to breed her. It is so hard to wait though. And I really want to do something with her, like show her, breed her, etc. Last edited by wolflover; 07-10-2009 at 04:59 PM. |

| I think it is wonderful that you come on here educate yourself about breeding. Unfortunately, I really don't think you will be able to breed your female. She is going to be to small. Even with a small male really... I would take the risk if I was you. It is also important for you to have a big minimum of $1000 on the side in case of emergency c-section. Make sure your parents understand and agree to that... I also agree with the group... you should look for a mentor. good luck with everything. |

YT Addict | I call everyone hun and you are 11 im 25 you are a baby to me so im going to call you hun lol. If you want to do something with her show her or teach her cool tricks. i think breeding her is a long ways away for your little girl atleast wait 2 years don't push breeding on her just because you want it. I think you should show her even if she isnt show standard who cares do it. Teach her tricks make one of thoughs show rings with tricks in them do that with her for now. i would like to see videos of her doing them as would anyone her. You just got her give yourself time to think about breeding and if you don't get her spayed make sure she doesn't get pregnant without you knowing it could turn out very bad. A bigger male can get to her and she could die i want to stress that to you its no joke you don't want to lose your baby. |

YT Addict | Try to get her into modeling put her into photo contests for pet of the month. I think petco and petsmart have contests and so do a lot of internet dog stores. That would be fun to dress her up and take a bunch of pictures of her. Teach her how to model. |

| Just to give you an idea.... I've spent $2000 between vet and stud fees on my first litter. That doesn't even take into account my time and missed work. And I had few problems. She delivered naturally on her own. I have 3 puppies. You will see others on here who have had one puppy and a c-section. So in my opinion, if you want another puppy it would be cheaper to buy one than try to breed for one and risk losing your girl. But if that's the direction you still want to go in regardless of the cost, you've come to a really good place to research. I'd encourage you to do alot of reading and take your time - there's no rush! At 11 it's easy to do the impulsive thing and people your age usually have a hard time waiting for things they want but I hope that you remember that now you have to step up and kinda be an adult as you are responsible for another living being and you need to think about what's best for you girl and not what you want. Sometimes doing the right thing is not always easy. I hope you make the right decision here.... PS. If you really want to be apart of the birthing process - can I suggest starting with chickens? They hatch in 21 days. You can buy an incubator for under $100 and they are alot of fun. If you get the eggs from a farmer - most are willing to take the chickens back after they are born. I've done this several times myself and have so much fun with it! I thought maybe you might enjoy it too! |

| I tried to post a vid of miley doing sit, down, shake, wave, dance, spin around, and high five. It wont upload though. I have asked my parents about the chicken thing once, and they said no. But they let me breed my budgie. Except she never became a mother. I am so bored in the summer, I need something to do with my babys (two budgies and a puppy). I have spent my whole summer so far on my laptop I got for graduating elementary school. The only things that I can tell are faults are her topline is curved upward a bit, her black is only just breaking into that steely bluish color, she isnt all tan in the correct spots yet, her back might be kind of long, and i forgot the last one. I hope her colors change into the right ones. Can you give me more information on this Junior Showing? While I am waiting I will google it though. Last edited by wolflover; 07-10-2009 at 06:35 PM. |

| I hope you will reconsider breeding Miley. She is going to be way too small to breed and there's a large possibility she could die giving birth, or at the very least, have to have a C section. You could possibly lose all the pups too because you won't have whelping experience, and might wait too late to get Miley to the vet. I personally would never risk a dog's life that I loved just to have a litter of puppies. I am not trying to be mean to you. There truly is a big risk of losing Miley since she's so small. Think how much that would hurt you to lose her. I have been a dog and horse breeder since 1982 and am very experienced, but I have no desire to breed yorkies. My dog is a champion sired male and most of his pedigree is red, meaning most of his ancestors were champion show dogs. And he is gorgeous! But, I still had him neutered at eight months old because I did not want to breed yorkies, and I sure didn't want a male dog lifting his leg peeing in my home. I think a wonderful thing you could do with Miley that you'd both enjoy is turn her into a therapy dog. You could teach her some tricks, dress her up, and take her to hospitals and nursing homes so people who are sick could enjoy her too. When my nephew was eight years old he was diagnosed with cancer and was extremely sick in the children's hospital. While he was in the hospital, the only bright moment of his stay was when some wonderful people brought their therapy dogs to the hospital to entertain the kids. The dogs did tricks for the children, and later they were able to get up in the beds and cuddle with the sick kids. I swear, tears were pouring down my cheeks, seeing how much joy a little Yorkie brought to my nephew when he was so very sick. That's what I want to do with my yorkie. It would probably bring a lot of joy to your life too. I know an excellent dog trainer in Dallas whom I'm sure could teach you how to train Miley. I've seen her do amazing things with dogs. Her name is Carla Collins and her training school is Sit Means Sit. Here is her website. http://www.sitmeanssit.com/dog-train...-dallas-texas/ Please email her to see if she'll be having classes in your area. I know she trains in the Frisco area. She is a wonderful person and could help you so much. And please contact the handler Mardelin mentioned. He could help you more than you can imagine! I would have loved to have met a respected handler when I was 11 years old and learned to show dogs that young. I would like to say I'm really proud of you for starting so young, learning about raising dogs, showing dogs, training dogs, and breeding dogs. I would have loved to have gotten into showing when I was your age, instead of in my late 20's. I hope you will try to learn all you can, and try not to be impatient. I know it's hard but you have so much potential, and who knows. Some day in the future you could be a top show dog handler, a top breeder, or a top obedience trainer. Use the resources so readily available to you in the DFW metroplex and you will do great. Best of luck to you!!

| My post was so long I didn't see your post listing all the tricks you've already taught Miley. Congratulations. You are doing a great job and are on your way. If you need any help training her, give Carla a call or email her.
