| My pomeranian is helping to Mother puppies? Hi everyone, I have some updates on the puppies we have had. They are now 2 weeks old. Rosie (mom) is doing good, everyone is growing etc. The last few days though my pomeranian (female) has gotten more and more interrested in the puppies. She was curious from the start but the last few days she's staring at them from the outside of the box every chance she gets, Rosie (mom to puppies) is spending more time away from them as they sleep to come out and visit with us. Well, I got home from school tonight and when Rosie came out to hang out a little, I went to check on the puppies and Ranian (pomeranian) has now began to sit with the puppies in their box. She stares at them and won't look up even when we call her name. She is not showing any signs like she's going to hurt them, but I am a little weary as to what she's doing? Is she trying to be the dad or something? She won't try to steal them, right? I am o.k. with her helping to care for them as long as she's being good, she has never had babies (she's 5 years old) so she probably doesn't have a great understanding of being a mother etc. I am just really curious as to what she wants from them, maybe just a part in all of it? I need some input to this one, i wasn''t thinking she'd be the mothering type of dog.

| Interesting. I'd be very careful with that. Mom might get jealous and fight to protect her babies. |

| It IS really interesting..... I fell cautious about letting this happen, but rosie knows she's in there with them. At this point Rosie is o.k. with it.?!

| Since the pups are only two weeks old I would not take any chances that the Pom and the yorkie mom could get in a fight over the pups. I am really surprised the mom is allowing it. Just because the Pom has never had pups does not mean she does not have motherly instincts. I am sure she is just fascinated by the pups and has not intentions of hurting them but you really never know. I just think it would be wiser to keep her away from them until they are a bit older. I have heard of females that did not have pups letting another momma's pups nurse on them and it will actually bring in their milk. Of course if your pom has never had pups then she should not have any nipples big enough for them to suck on. Believe me though, as soon as they are up and walking around they will try to. Good luck with your babies. |

| Yeah its really hard to say what may turn out of it all. Momma dog may be ok with it one minute and jealous and ready to fight the next. I have heard of some dogs sharing pups like that before thou. its just you never know. I had a small female pek she was 5 she never had any pups of her own, and when a pregnant cat we brought in had kittens this mother cat freaked out and this little dog laid right with her licking her and seemed to make it all better. That dog took the part of being apart of these kittens mother, she cleaned and laid with them every day. yeah they tried to nurse off her and she let them, after about 2 weeks she didnt want the mother cat around her kittens , Guess she wanted to be the mother now. so as sad as it was we had to take the dog away from them and keep them seperated in different rooms because she wanted the babies so bad she would chase off momma cat. when they got older we let her be with them because by then Momma cat was done nursing them and didnt care. and let me tell you. the doggie was so happy to have her step kids back. LOL but if I hadent been there 24/7 I would of never let them both be with those babies because you never really know whats going to happen.and if jealousy starts they will some time fight to the death. |

| I have some 7 week old pups now and I have one 8 month old female that is just in love with them. She is so gentle with them. I let her go in and visit them several times a day and she just licks them all over and she lets them climb all over her. I have others that will do the same thing. I just like to introduce the pups slowly to the other yorkies in the house. Some of my older females don't have patience for puppies anymore so I make sure the pups don't bother them. |

| I have a male from Abby's 1st litter and he is so interested in our puppies, he can't stand himself. Abby is really good when he is in the room with them. I only let him in the room if I am in there. Abby will let him see the puppies if I hold them and they are both sniffing them at the same time, but if Bear tries to get near their bed Abby herds him away. She doesn't growl or anything she just uses her body to move him to another part of the bathroom. It is really funny to watch. I usually only let bear in the bathroom for a few minutes at a time. |

| I have a litter of puppies right now that are about 6 weeks old. They are at a point where their little teeth are coming in and momma doesn't want anything to do with them. I have another little girl, Kalli who has been too small for breeding and LOVES to play with them. Momma used to not like it, but these days she doesn't care anymore. Its funny to watch Kalli lay in the floor and let the puppies walk all over her and chew on her hair. I don't think its so much a mothering thing, but I think Kalli really enjoys the companionship of the young'uns!

| That's interresting, but my pom. is really fixated on these puppies, she is very mezmorized by them right now, not really a playing type interrest, not sure really what she's doing just yet. We have a new 10 week old puppy, and they play. It is like when Rosie (real momma) leaves the pups is when it is Ranian's (pom) turn to babysit or something. When she gets in the box with them she stares and stares, and she won't take her eyes off of them. They were crawling up on her and she was allowing it. Maybe I will get a chance to video tape it, it is weird.
