One of my 4 day old pups.... Is making like a loud sucking sound, and I can see his throat area pulsing hard as he is making this sound. I put my ear to his lungs, but I hear the sound louder closer to his throat and face. He is doing it even in my hand, when he is not latched on. He IS gaining weight, lies in the pile with the other pups, his body is nice and warm, and he is latched on nursing right now, but still making this sound. Any ideas.....at all? We are going to the vet today for tail docking, but I want to make sure he is ok, before doing that procedure.

I have seen puppies make suckling sounds or motions in when not latched on. He may be gaining but he may be getting satisfied. Does mom have plenty of milk?

She seems to, none of the babies are crying, and she is always in with them keeping them warm, and everytime we check on them, they are latched on or sleeping quietly. None of them are ever crying.....not even this one making the sound. At the time we heard him this morning, he was in a pile with the other pups, and only one of the 7 was actually nursing....he wasn't even looking to nurse. I did pick him up, listened to him, tried to cuddle him a bit and then latched him on....he was making the same sound once he latched on and was drinking.....just a really "thick" sucking noise.

THANK YOU!!!! That makes me feel sooooooo much better! I mean, he is gaining, he is growing, he is warm, he isn't crying, he is in the pile with the other pups....all the warning signs you look for when a pup is in trouble.....he isn't doing. I really needed to hear that sometimes they make these weird noises, and are just fine!
