| how do you seperate prego moms If any of you have any pictures you would like to show off of your whelping areas, please post. I have one nursery, but two pregnant dams and would like to make sure that they don't go after each others babies (not willing to take a chance after what happened to a friend of mine). I would like to keep them both in the nursery as that is what the room is for, but don't usually have two pregnant at the same time. Please send pictures or if you don't want to post you can send to my private email. SerendipityYorkies@yahoo.com I am looking for a new set up other than what I usually use (ex-pens). I want something that can not be climbed out of. Any suggestions?? Guess I am kinda paranoid after what happened to her pups.

| I do not pity you in that task. I cannot even fathom having two expecting moms at the same time! And two litters at once...don't even want to imagine that one. Good luck with that! |

| I keep hearing the term 'ex-pens' What does that mean? I went to see a neighbor the other day and she has 2 pregnant females. She had them set up in their dog room. One was in a converted baby playpen and the other was in a large cage. She has a grandaughter that is 1 year old living w/her and she also needed the cages to keep the dogs safe from the baby. I don't know how well this works but I thought I would tell you what I have seen her do..... |

| LoL well what is worse is they are due literally "one day apart". That's ok I will be enlisting the SO on this one! Ha **An ex pen is a exercise pen. Like an 8 panel cage with a door and no top. See link below: PetEdge: ProSelect Ex-Pen (42"H) with Carrying Case

| Ha-Ha I bought one last year! I had no idea that's what you called them. I took mine apart in panels and set it up to have 2 pens with tops, (I had to seperate a few of my chickens) (I used zip ties and the original pieces to accomplish this) if you have 8 panels you can put them together this way. I am not sure that having the girls that close together will work out if your trying to keep them seperated though, and it doesn't give them a ton of room. Thanks for the fast reply. Good Luck. |

| I purchased a wire cover for my 24 inch high X-pen, it clips onto your standard 4' x 4' pen but I tape it on for added security. I purchased my top from Petedge.com PetEdge: ProSelect Exercise Pen Roof

| I use 36" x-pens setup in our spare bedroom. I have several I arrange so the mommas have a big area about 4' by 12'. None of my females can jump or climb the 36" pens. I put the whelping box at the far end and I hang sheets on the side of the x-pens to give the mom more privacy. |

| I do have one climber so I need a top on it. I did look at those pet edge tops this morning before I posted but they make the kennel too small for me. I like giving them the full 8 panels and make it into a rectangle (bed on one side potty pad on the other). I guess I just need to find something that will attach to the top of the 8 panel pen securely but removable for easy access

| Perhaps you can make a home made cover? Use a sheet or blanket for the roof and find a way to secure it really good to the pen. That way no one can climb or jump out or in.

| Well I did look at it again and I see what your saying. I was under the impression that it was a 4 panel cage shown. I didn't realize it was 8 panels. The picture just makes the "lid" look small. I may end up doing that then. I really don't like the 4x4 set up. I prefer the 2x8. Just to further seperate the potty pad, but I may just "do what I have to do" for the meantime :-) Thanks for pointing that out

| I find puppy pens are wonderful for whelping and keeping the puppies in while they grow. Much easier on your back with the raised floor. Precision Pet Puppy Pen, 36x24x30 - Dog Supplies
