| Sounds like ytou will have puppies within the next 12-24 hours. You do not need to put her in the whelping box until she starts to deliver. Good luck on the babies

| well we have 2 baby boys!!! 4.4 oz and 4.7 oz!!!! izzy had to have a c-section. i let her puch for about 1 1/2 and nothing so off to the vet we went. they did a vaginal exam on her and said she was fully dilated but there was no way that pup could get threw the birth canal. all went great during the surgery.momma is ok and so are the puppies but i have a few questions 1. they said her milk has came in good yet and the puppies would nurse and that would help alot. well i tried to get them to nurse but no luck. i would put the on her but they would latch on. so i bottle feed both and stimulated them to pee. no numer 2 yet. 2. how much do i feed them??? i have no clue how much they need. i know every two hrs or so but no clue how much. the vet gave me a can of esbiilac formula for them and i have two bottles!! it says like 15 oz. is the smallest amount on the bottle. 3. will izzy come around and want to be with the puppies?? right now she has nothing to do woth them.. she will lay there when i am right beside her but they will not latch on for nothing. i tried puttin a little karo syrup on her teets but that didnt help.. any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!!! |

| Congratulations on the babies. Mom is probably going to take a couple of days to come around. That happens a lot with a c-section. I went thru the same thing with my Sunshine. It is important to continue to place the babies on mom, then if all else fails supplement. I had to spend a lot of time laying by the whelping box with my mom for a couple of days until her milk came in good. The c-section seems to slow the milk coming in. But it is still very important for the babies to suckle. I cannot remember the amount to feed them, but it is a tiny amount. It should say so on the cans. If I remember right it is something like 1 or 2 tablespoons per ounce of weight. DON'T quote me on that tho. Use what it says on the can.

| well as soon as i posted this i put her in there with the babies and she layed down and started licking them so i took one and put the bottle in its mouth and then put some milk on her teets and sure enough the little guys latched on. they have been nursing for a little while. not sure if they r gettin any milk or not!! should i still feed them inbetween them nursing?? momma has gone crazy chewin on the umbilical cord. is that normal??? i am just scared she is gonna chew a little leg or something! oh and i gave her some whelping pudding and she loved it. ate the whole bowl of it!!! this is gonna be a long night. lol... they baies r not cryin or anything so i guess they r gettin some milk. i will feed them if they get fussy!!! |

| Good job. If the babies have round tummies after nursing, they are getting plenty from mom. You might want to weigh them before and after and just make sure they are gaining. Watch mom with the chewing on the cords. Try to distract her a bit for a couple of days so they have time to heal.

| Yes, weigh the pups to see if they are gaining...also you can check the pups for dehydration by lightly pinching the skin on the back of their necks...if the skin stays in a pinched form they need liquids - if it goes back to normal they are hydrated. Congrates on your babies!!
