Egdewood Kennels in Bangor,PA Does anyone know anything about this breeder? She shows her dogs but they can be very expensive. My concern is the large number of yorkies kept at her kennel. Thanks for any info.

Kennel Cindy has had some difficult times...she had a tragic fire last year in her kennel and many dogs were killed....the loss still saddens me to think about. I would visit her and see first hand if you find the puppies for sale well socialized and outgoing...I would say she is a high volume breeder and that does not appeal for some buyers...

I heard about this but didn't realize it was her. I have talked to her recently several times and found her to be a very nice person. I just couldn't afford her price for a show quality dog. If I could, I would buy in a heartbeat. | |

I bought my yorkie from Cindy (Edgewood) over six years ago. She's super healthy and has the sweetest personality. I couldn't ask for a better dog! At 12 week she was already well socialized. I have been going back for regular groomings since and Cindy is always very helpful and pleasent. She has excellent pet and show quality dogs.

We bought Peanut from Cindy at Edgewood and she is the best dog we could have ever wished for. We bought her at age 7 as a retired breeding dog. She is now 10 and we feel like we couldn't live without her. Absolutely go to Edgewood to find a wonderful dog.

Cynthia Hill is a reputable breeder. I understand concerns about small dogs and their health but are small people more prone to health problems? I would not breed a bitch under 5 pounds but small yorkies are not necessarily unhealthy. I can substantiate that the female that I had from Cynthia was over 12 years old when she went to the rainbow bridge. It actually happened a few weeks ago. You can tell Cynthia that you will not consider a dog under a certain weight when mature. Cynthia's contract will insist that you have the dog evaluated by a vet within so many days of purchase. The one issue that I had that the final worming was not done. I have had Yorkies for over 40 years and have had one that was 18 when he finally met his maker. I bred that dog. I am not a breeder but I do not like when individuals make unfair assessments of breeders without knowing them. Do your homework on the blood lines and from genetic history, you can try to evaluate if you will have a healthy pet. There are no guarantees for anyone in their lifetime but you can eliminate certain ailments like shunts (which has been a common genetic issue with Yorkies).

Missing posts I actually was querying Cynthia Hill on google. It directed me to these posts. Someone was warning the original person of the post that the dogs on Cynthia's site appeared small and that she should be aware that smaller dogs tend to have more health problems. There was also a concern about Cynthia not being a member of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. I did not know that this affiliation guarantees your dogs to be Healthy. I am not affiliated in anyway with Mrs. Hill. I did enjoy one of her yorkies for over 12 years and the dog was healthy and was 4.5 pounds. I have dealt with this breed for over 40 years and have experienced the politics of showing from my friends who have bred and shown. My main point is to rely on the ancestry of the particular yorkie to narrow your health risks. By the way, Cynthia Hill is not longer in Bangor, PA. She has relocated to the Carolinas. She is still breeding. I know this because I am currently looking for a healthy yorkie to own as a pet. My last two yorkies died this year and both were 12 years old. The other breeder of my dogs was Terry Shumsky who is also deceased. Terry was a dog show judge for about 38 years. I flew to CA right after 911 to pick up my puppy. My Ali died in February of this year. I miss my two angels very much!

Downside to Edgewood If you can find a breeder who only breeds a few litters a year, you may have a more socialized pet. Cynthia would not let me visit inside her kennel. I must say that this is not such a great sign of cleanliness. Also my other yorkie who came from a small breeder with an excellent reputation would hold each puppy for about 20 minutes a few times a day. This can not be the case with a high volume breeder. Also the going price for one of the Edgewood yorkies is high. Please ask the price before the visit or you may have to be revived. The female that I bought from Cynthia had already decided to go home with me so I paid the price. She has not increased the price in 10 years but it is very high for a dog. I understand that there are only a few puppies in each litter but I did not think that dog breeding made millionaires. I may be wrong.
