YT Addict | My Husband is always there to help out. How big is your female? If she is 4lbs or under I would advise you to seek a vet . Make sure she will be able to deliver naturally.I haven't had any problems yet. Princess was scared of her puppies at first but by the time the third pup was born she was more calm and accepted them. I had two grandbabies born in the same month my pups where born. It was a busy month.I have had three litters born so far and i'm a nervous wreck every time. The last litter started at 12am and we where up all night and the first litter basicly the same. The second litter was in the afternoon and i wish they all where.Read up on whelping and get ready for whatever might happen. Make sure the puppy gets its face clear of the sac and starts breathing.I'm not an expert, so i'd rather not give advice, but their is plenty of good info on the computer and probably more people on yorkie talk that can better tell you than me. I read a lot and watched animal planet also. I have a good friend that worked for my vet for 20 years and i always call her when i'm in doubt.Sometimes i skip her and call my vet at home . Don't hesitate to call the vet when you are in doubt about something.Good luck on your new baby and your new puppies.I would advice newspaper while she is whelping and let the pups suck between each birth to help continue the labor. Sucking makes her have contractions. Its not always easy getting them on a tit. Just have to keep working at it . I get the milk to come out and put the pup up against it. takes a little effort but eventually the pup will take hold. I love to see them get that first milk. Get all the advice you can and Good Luck.Looking forward to seeing your new family. |

Thank you. My female is about 6.5 lbs. The only issue I think I really have is her age. She is about 9 months. I KNOW you are not supposed to breed until after age 2, but unfortunately I didn't know she was in Heat until it was too late. I am going to check out Animal Planet and see if there are any shows on breeding and delivering puppies. We have a Vet appointment scheduled for next Tuesday, so we will see what he says. My other issue is that how do you know that your Vet will answer when you call? We moved to this area a year ago, and started to go to this Vet when I got my Yorkies about 7 months ago. But I don't know that much about him, and even if he gives me a phone number, do they really answer at 3:30 a.m.? There is an Emergency Vet about 10 min from my house, but I doubt they will stay on the phone with me, especially since I have never been there before. Audrey | |

YT Addict | Hi I have my vets home phone number and he has even taken one of my dogs home with him. I would advise you to get more than one, vet home and office number. They are suppose to be on call for emergencies.I have three vet numbers in my personal emergency phone book. She will probably deliver alright except usually the first time they don't know quiet what to do. That is what happenned to Princess and she is nearly 3 years old, but never had puppies.9 months is quiet a bit young. I never let mine breed till the second heat, which is about 14 to 15 months, even as long as two years.Best thing is to get your vets home phone number and always be prepared for the worst. She will probably be fine. 6 lbs is a good weight for breeding. Just relax and do your home work. You will need heating pad , dental floss, sissors.Old towels, they can be washed. I tried newspapers with Princess and she didn't like them. Be sure you feed puppy food to the mommy while she is pregnant and till puppies are weaned. I prefer hills science diet puppy. It has special stuff"dna" for the milk . |
