| I'm usually not one to agree with rehoming dogs, but it sounds like the buyers did the right thing. How do you know they really weren't allergic? And even if not, they obviously realized a puppy wasn't going to work for them. Yes, puppy buyers need to understand the responsiblity of owning a dog BEFORE they buy, but sometimes once the puppy is actually in the home, it doesn't work out for some reason. They decided pretty quickly (within a week) that it wasn't working out and definitely did the right thing in contacting you to take the puppy back. They probably could have easily resold the puppy and made a profit, gave it away to someone, or dumped it in a shelter somewhere. However, they chose to do the right thing...what would they have gotten out of having a puppy for one week and then having to return it I think assuming that they are lying and wanting to bash them on the internet seems a little over the top considering they did the best they could for the puppy. I say let it go and put your energy into finding another good home for the puppy.I'm a little confused on the "young professional, ivy-league type" too ![]() Also, those of you who automatically exclude young adults or apartment dwellers may be missing out on some wonderful pet owners. I'm a young adult in vet school with two cats and two yorkies and they are extremely well-taken care of. I put them before myself all the time...believe me, they get whatever they need before I do every time. And apartments...as long as it's a pet-friendly apartment complex, what's wrong with apartments? Yorkies are small dogs and can get plenty of exercise inside. I live in a townhouse and have a very small backyard, but I choose to walk my dogs throughout the day to potty..and we go to friends with big backyards frequently for them to run around. Anyway, I know a breeder has the right to place their puppies with whom they wish, but I don't always agree with automatic exclusions...your puppies are probably missing out on some excellent homes when you do that.

Btw, how many people in NYC have dogs? And, how many of them have yards? Of course it's the breeder's choice, but I would just gently remind folks that GOOD HOMES come in lots of colors, not just ONE.

| I agree the posts above, though I agree it is the breeder's choice! I just think that people should use their own judgement in every case, people reading skills come in handy! Thank GOD Cooper's breeder took the time to meet me and make a decision based on ME. I got him as my 18th birthday present to myself! I might not be the typical college student, but my situation allows me to take immaculate care of both my yorkies. When it comes to my boys I never think twice about their care! I've seen older people at the vet that might fall into some breeder's "preferred" categories, refusing care for their pet because of cost/time. Not saying its about money, but age doesn't directly correlate with responsibility level and financial ability. Something some people need to remember. ~How many parents (of appropriate parental age) act negligently and cause harm to their young children? How many houses are in HORRIBLE condition?? |

i guess apartment dwellers would be good for yorkies puppy pad trained ![]() and walked ![]() but you may be the exception the well educated may not be well educated in dog puppy care i would want to know if they care enough to learn about dogs keeping a dog alone all day in an apartment is not a great life unless there are 2 dogs.. then they would not be alone all day

| I feel like the original poster has a right to be frustrated. You put so much trust into placing a puppy. To have it come back the next day-week-month must be exasperating. The positive side of this is that you and that puppy dodged a bullet. Better to find out now and be able to communicate and have the puppy back in your arms than to have them change their minds (for whatever reason) 6 mos from now and just figure they'd place the pup on their own, drop it at a shelter or give it to a rescue. It was your open door policy that facilitated getting that puppy back! Please consider that before you alienate clients by posting them on a bad list or in a public forum. I just worry that you could end up with a reputation for embarassing families when things go wrong. If that gets around, and heaven forbid, somebody really and truly does need to rehome one of your babies, it may make them think twice about coming to you and they may just rehome the dog on their own. That would be a shame and probably not what you want since you care so much. Now, for somebody that just wants to lock in a sale, having a reputation for posting owners with issues is a great idea...it pretty much guarantees they will never come back to you for any kind of support and you will never have to deal with the time, money and effort of rehoming an animal of your breeding. I guess it's just a matter of the lessor of the two evils and what the breeder's agenda is to begin with. (I mean that in a generic sense and not specifically toward the original poster.) |

| I do not require a yard...I breed Yorkies, not German Shepherds. Many of mine have goneto live in NY penthouses and small apartments everywhere..the size of the house means nothing to me..infact they could live quite happily in one room with an owner who loves and cares for all their needs. |

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know what she meant, but I took it to mean that they looked good on paper; meaning that she thought this would be a good home.
