Maybe I can shine some light on this. Our Yorkie just passed away a little over a month ago. She was 12.5 years old. She was a beauty, she turned heads every where she went. Having owned Yorkies for 40 years, we were purchasing quality Yorkies way before they had gained the popularity they seem to enjoy now. We are once again looking for a puppy, we always deal with our grief and start over with another bundle of love. I have viewed many, many puppies online, via email and from many advertisements. The breed has gone downhill IMO, it is a shadow of what it once was when they were harder to find. My opinion may not be popular, but we are finding the quality of the Yorkies is not commiserate with the price being asked for them today. High supply, low quality. At least that is what we are finding in our search. We are dismayed. |
I have to agree with you 100%. The appearance of the Yorkie is changing and the overall health of the breed has gone downhill...it's very hard to find one that fits the 'image' and is healthy. As per the OP subject...I also have to agree with the others that a lot of this is the economy and the general over breeding of the Yorkie. The breed is slowly being ruined and it will be quite a while before I buy another Yorkie. |

Hi friends I was breeding yorkies long before I even had a computer, I bred dobormans before that so if you put it all together I have been a breeder for 18yr of my life, I don't make hardlt any money on my babies, Most of the time I send more than I make, Because I started with 10 pound yorkies didn't mean for them to breed but they did and I had to keep a pup that was 12 yrs ago, I have only had a computer for 2-3yrs now, if anyone goes to my website you will see a button for my lines take a look at the pics and my past puppy page is full of babies I have come a long way, But I joined here to learn more about breeding and how to better my lines, I have never sold a puppy for 1500.00-2500.00 and in n.c I doubt I ever will even if I had all Champs. I will not stop breeding even if yt were to go off line, I love what I do, And I have a dream to show one of my lines one day may take me 10 more yrs But I will never give up, I good breeder is not in it for the $$ anyway they are in it to improve thier lines, My babies are never caged, they take turns sleping in the bed with me and my hubby, And I love them all the same, They are my children to me, I am so sorry if puppies are not selling for some really I am, But I have a waiting list I can;t fill in my guest book as well as refurals for others who have bought pups from me in the past, My rep is themost important thing to me. And how my babies live, all in my house fenced in backyard 2toyboxes full of toys and lots of love, Iwill always breed yorkies because I love the breed. your freindly breeder and friend Denise |

Thank you for the welcome, it makes me feel very at home. I have lurked here on several occasions, but never posted. I am always slow to jump in and make my feelings known, I do not want to offend. Being a veteran of several eBay boards, I know there is a wealth of info on forums and came here to read up on breeders. I am in contact now with Ron-Del Kennels in Oregon as we speak. We are in just the questions via email stage. Like I said above, it is an all new ball game for me. I feel like an old veteran playing by all new rules. I am slightly overwhelmed in our search for another bundle of fur. Our beloved Scout passed away on May 20. She battled Chronic Renal Failure successfully for over a year. With the help of our amazing vet (he carried a prayer card in his pocket daily for our little girl) and K9Kidney Forum she had an amazing quality of life until being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. She was gone from us within a month. It does not work putting fluids in for kidney health and removing fluids for heart health. The heartbeat of our home is gone, but as always, we begin again. We have one little boy with us, Corky the Yorkie. I inherited Corky from an elderly gentleman I met at the park. He had ALS, I visited with him daily. When he passed, he left his beloved Corky to me. He is part Yorkshire Terrier, part Silky. He was a gift to the gentleman's wife, who preceded him in death two years before. He is a gift to us daily. Sooo...that is my story. We begin again, Yorkies are the joy of our home. Without them we are only humans who live here, with them, we are vibrant, joy filled people who share our lives with the most wonderful pooches on the planet. I do have a question. Does anyone know of Ron-Del Kennels out of Oregon? Can you point me to someone who may? If you would like to see my pooches, you can see them in two places. One is The Daily Puppy, they were chosen for a layout last year. The other is my Me Page on eBay. Scout is the gorgeous red-head in the picture. Corky is the handsome little man beside her. As you can see, I do not choose tiny Yorkies, my experience has always been better with the larger of the breed. I hope you enjoy their pics. The story of how Corky came to me is on my eBay page. He's quite the little man in my life. eBay View About Me for i-snipe-widgets Scout and Corky the Yorkies | DailyPuppy.com |

Opps..sorry, I am unfamiliar with your forum. Hope patience is in abundance around here :) |
I am not a breeder but have had a bad experience with one and learned a huge lesson that was not repeated when I bought my baby girl. I will say this-the economy sucks and I wanted these babies badly-worked my butt off for them to have the best care and things. I live in Oklahoma and yorkies are everywhere! Definately more quantity than quality. But it is hard to afford a quality bred yorkie in today's society. I saved my money to do so, but also did not buy on a "whim". I love my babies-but really-they are priceless to me. The prices on pets is very heartwrenching and conflicting. They are priceless when you have them, but it is hard to afford what you want. Interesting thread-love reading through it. |
breeding I wish I had puppies for all the people who want to replace a Yorkie they bought from me 12, 14, 16 yrs ago. I get emails asking for a relative, or at least from my new lines...I refer to people with my lines if possible... but more often people will tell me I have no clue to the poor quality, unsolicizated puppies breeders are cranking out to make money on the second most popular breed...I wish with all my heart Yorkies were the most undesirable breed..you would see the mills dumping them fast... |

The last time we were at the clinic with Scout, two Yorkies were there. I am not being nasty but I stared at them in horror. They were nervous, poorly groomed, thin and very poor quality. The owners said up front, "I cannot pay my bill today, but they need their nails trimmed". I was dumbfounded. No money, no sense, but two little creatures dependent upon them. They said they had to have Yorkies, they loved them and they couldn't wait till they had puppies, one was male, one was female. I could not even speak. Scout was very ill, I was very fragile, I just started crying. To think those little dogs were going to be put to breeding, in the care of people who knew nothing about them, could not pay to have their nails trimmed, much less LEARN to trim them. How could they better the breed? It is upsetting to me. I love this breed, I have since I was child (which was in the dark ages) to me this is sad. YorkieRose, Do you raise Yorkies now? |

pups I am semi-retired..very little breeding myself...feeling forced to breed a litter of two for dear friends..but not sure. I co-own with a couple friends and take a puppy from the litters were share. I can not post pic's on here..but that is how I got Becca nd now Pinkee...a male coming soon...but I have been fortunate to have people wait a year plus...I wouldn't LOL! I am active in the Goldcoast Yorkie club and we are having a Specialty on July 11th...I am running the silent auction..I get the bug to show once in awhile, especially after a day at a show, but find if I lay down quietly in a dark room, the urge goes away!
