It is very common for the water sack to break several hours before a puppy is delivered. Just like in women, the water breaks and then you head for the hospital and have your baby hours later. The important thing is to watch her contractions. Often the water will break in the early stages of labor. The contractions will get stronger and stronger until the momma is really pushing hard. Once the hard pushing begins they should have a puppy within an hour. Never break the sack that the puppy is in until the puppy is completely out. Often what happens in the case of a breached birth, the puppies hind end will come out and the head could still be stuck, if the sack is broken before the head comes out then the puppy can suffocate.

I was on the phone with the vet, they had told me to feather her to see if I could bring on the contractions, that didn't seem to work, nor did the walk, so we were getting ready to take her to the Vet, we went back to check, and there was the puppy. She has had her 2nd baby, and both are doing great. They are nursing, and she is constantly cleaning and licking them. She is resting with them, and we are waiting for the next set of contractions. Thanks for the prayers, keep them coming, we are still waiting for 4 more babies.

Oh my goodness, six babies! Congrats on the birthdays thus far! We'll keep praying for an "all downhill" delivery for the rest of the family!

Thank you very much, I didn't even think to compare it to a woman. I had a dry breech birth of a 6 oz pup the last time, we acted quick, and thank God, he was nice and healthy.

Congratulation on the first two babies. Since momma has four more to go she is likely to get tired. Be sure to give her Nutri-cal in between puppies. If you don't have Nutri-cal then karo syrup and water will work. We are praying for her.

Quick update, we have 6 healthy little babies. We did go to the E.R. Vet, because it was over 2 hrs between the 2nd and 3rd pup, and she had ALOT of dark green discharge. I know it isn't bad to have the green discharge after the 1st pup, but there was so much, and so much time, that I got worried, and decided better safe than sorry. So we took Princess, and her two babies to the E.R. Vet, and she had the next pup in my hand walking thru the parking lot. We went into the vet, and got the baby cleaned up, the doctor, said they all looked good, and we headed back home. She had the last 3, within the next 1 hr. She has been in labor since 1 p.m., and it is now 11 p.m. It was a VERY long, stressful, emotional, and draining day, that couldn't have had a better ending.

I have been giving her plenty of water, and Nutri-cal, throughout, and she was not stressed, nor did she seem overly tired, or in any pain at all, she was mostly sleeping during the 2 hrs in between, and nursing and taking care of her babies, but she was contracting and pushing, so that is why we decided to seek the E.R. Vet. The last baby did come out as a dry birth, no sac at all, but they are all healthy and nursing as we speak.

I just want to know, if you guys think I overreacted taking her to the E.R. Vet, she had a pup at 5:10 and then no contractions till 6:50 then at 8:30 she had alot of Green Discharge, and I could see a pup, when she contracted, but it didn't seem like it was making any progress. I was able to see the pup for about an hour, and it didn't seem to be getting closer. Mom was resting in between contractions, and did not seem like she was uncomfortable or in pain. MY Vet had told me not to let her go longer than 2 hrs with contractions and pushing, without producing a baby, the E.R. Vet that I was in contact with said "if she has been pushing for an hr and there is still no pup, I think you should bring her in". Now looking back, I feel like maybe I should've given her the full 2 hrs. The E.R. Vet was 20 min away, and I took that in account when I left my house at 8:30, that by the time we would get there, the 2 hrs would have lapsed.

Soooooo OPINIONS PLEASE.....

Congratulations!!! I would of done the same thing by taking her to the vet.. Its always best to be safe then sorry. That's my motto! How many boys and girls did she deliver? You may have posted it but I must have missed it.
