Princess's Puppies are coming QUESTION.... Around 1, she started shaking, and panting alot, still very active and not pushing. around 2:00, a sack of fluid presented. I called the Vet, as it wasn't coming all the way out, and they said all was normal. Princess ended up breaking the fluid. It has been 45 min, and she is just resting comfortably. No more shaking, panting, just laying down and resting. How long should she just be resting? The VET said all is fine, and that she should start pushing soon, but how long is it OK for her to go before pushing and contracting? |
She started this at 1 am?? Are there any contractions at this time?? If not, I would be off to the vet. |

I had a female lose her water and not start contracting for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours later. We went to the vet at about 2 hours, and they were able to work the puppy down. Looking back, I think that was too long to wait. We lost the puppy the next day. You might try moving the mom around a little. Just a little walk around the room may jog things into place so she can start contracting. Do you have Nutri-Cal for her or whelping pudding? |
If the sack has broken, isn't the baby dependant on his/her own organs to sustain him/her at this point even though not delivered?? I'd be on a mad dash to the vet.... |

Thats what I did with Molly, I took her outside to potty and just got back in the house to have the first puppy! Walking should help! |
Well the Vet said it is normal for the sac to break, and for the Mom to take a rest. I will try taking her for a walk. It has been 1 hr since the water sac broke. They said as long as there is no green fluid, she is OK. I will take her in, if the walk doesn't start her contracting. Thanks! |
Good. Keep us posted. |
How many puppies is she supposed to have? |
Good luck! |
Checking in .... |
you still should go to vet and get an xray. If she hasnt done anything and its been an hour, time is critical. I know. If you wait too long the puppy can get lodged in the birth canal. An xray will show if the puppies head is too big to get thru the canal. Please dont take a chance |
awww poor mommy and Grandma! I will be praying everything goes alright! |
