I can't disagree with the issues most of the posters have raised, but enough with the sarcasm already. The OP obviously doesn't know about the consequences of reckless breeding but why take it as an opportunity to beat up on someone? I thought this was a forum for people to get good information, not a slamfest. I'm sure by now she's already tuned out and won't return but will proceed with her breeding plans. She may have been receptive to suggestions if the tone were different but what good has been done if all you did was run her off. It was easy to tell by her original post where she was coming from but some here just can't seem to find it in themselves to offer appropriate advice. Sorry for the rant but this happens all too often on the breeder forum. Please remember that not everyone that posts here is knowledgeable or experienced. Running them off is a sure fire way for them to make decisions harmful to their dogs.

We can sugar coat it if you'd like...I think a couple of posters were nice and the advice was rebuffed as in saying I am going to keep all the puppies (maybe not exact words) but you get the point. If you can't take the advice whether the tone sounds harsh or the tone is soft some just won't get it and will breed unfortunately. I'm sorry but I saw nothing in any responses as a slamfest JMHO :) Sorry for this rant but I'm tired of some taking GOOD ADVICE as a slamfest and wanting everything sugar coated just because someone will take offense. Again, JMHO!

We have plowed this ground before so I won't rehash. You're right, some of the posts were polite and informative but some were deliberately sarcastic. As a whole, if folks were trying to prevent her from breeding they failed miserably. This whole issue of the tone of posts has been discussed before with even a moderator chiming in at times about it. I believe there is a broad middle ground between meaness and sarcasm before you approach sugar coating. If you are actually trying to help someone, why not give them advice in a way that they might actually listen to it? A little tact and decorum can go a long way in convincing someone. I did re-read and again JMHO I saw nothing as a slamfest sorry...I just don't read that much into what you call sarcasim as I see it as passion. There is a difference in sarcasim and passion but I guess that is where you and I are different and I'll agree to disagree with you and no hard feelings :) Again, what I see in what most want is a good dose of sugar coating but that is just how I see it right or wrong and I'm not gonna sugar coat it. I"m blunt and that's why I haven't responded in this thread much anymore. I'm not going to apologize for my bluntness LOL...so I guess we can both agree to disagree with no hard feelings I hope :)

I try very hard not to be mean to anyone.
I have studied and studied breeding and I still have a long way to go.
As the post made below shows.
No matter how much we learn..How much we think we know now.
Bad things do happen. and You try not to feel like its your fault.
To me..Its a HUGE responsibility to breed and then raise healthy puppies.
I am the first one to agree, and have made many postings saying this.
That I feel sometimes people are driven away.
Did it stop them from breeding..NOPE.
But then I also see that there IS no way of sugar coating a dead puppy.
Or a dead Mama...

I really don't imagine the reaction to the op's question would be any different had they posted the question on maltese talk or any other specific breed.

My general perspection on some threads like these...it doesn't matter what people advise...nor how it's given...the op has pretty much made up their minds to do this.

Btw, I owned a designer dog...long before that phrase was ever coined. ;)

I have tried to post to this OP in a positive, yet informative manner. At least she said it made sense to her... lol....Lord knows I have made my own mistakes and truly believe I have learned from them. To this day I beat myself up because of losing Sunshine's first litter. Sure, they were tiny.. and my vets opinion that they most likely wouldn't have made it.... but I have to this day beat myself up because I wonder if a more experienced breeder could have saved them. I hate to see anyone go thru that. I had hoped that I would give this OP something to think about and tried to do it in a non accusatory manner. I really don't know why she came and asked questions because I truly believe she had her mind made up already and just wanted someone to tell her how to do it. I wish like hell that I had not told her anything about the ovulation timing, etc. But I am sure she would have got the info somewhere anyway. I notice she hasn't been back.. In any event, I hope she does come back to read if nothing else. I can only pray that she learns something from it and not at the expense of her dog.

OMG...what a heartache to lose a whole litter. I can only imagine. My heart was broken 2 days after Christmas last year when we lost a pup to a hypoglycemic episode. I thought I had her stabilized after being up with her all night. She was back to her usual self and running around. I took a 3 hour nap and woke to find her dead. She was the most beautiful precious little girl and I will forever feel guilty about it. I wasn't a member here at the time but feel if I was, we might have had a different outcome. Also, now I'm dealing with a little girl that we kept due to her being born with a twisted leg. We thought that was her only problem ( she's 21 months old and has always been very active) and she has given us much joy. In the last few weeks, however, she has started showing outward signs of a heart arrhythmia so I have no idea what is ahead for us with her. The point is, breeding Yorkies can be a wonderful thing but oh, the heartaches that come with it. Hope you all don't mind if I post a picture of Dani, the little one we lost just after Christmas. She was so precious and to think that she is gone still tears me up. She is a great example of what you have to gain, and also to lose, when breeding these little angels.

If I had a dollar for each time I heard a person say they were going to keep all the pups, so it matters not what they produce...well, rarely does it happen that way...what if you get 5 males as I once had...or 6 females...the work of raising a litter of puppies to adulthood is costly and exhausting...

It just amazes me how lightly some take breeding. Dogs can die, puppies can be born sick and deformed, puppies can be genetically prone to develop health problems later in life, heartbreak can be involved for all. Too many people read the horror stories of other's breeding tragedies and think it won't happen to them, and they don't realize just how serious breeding is until something bad happens to them. Breeding is a huge responsibility...more need to realize that. Maybe the OP doesn't realize how risky breeding is...shouldn't be taken lightly.

Keeping all the puppies doesn't get a breeder off the hook either. Keeping puppies haphazardly bred does prevent others from having to deal with the heartbreak you produced, but that doesn't stop the pain and suffering the DOGS have to go through...puppies born that have issues like collapsing trachea, liver shunt, luxating patella, etc. etc. are going to feel pain no matter whose home they are in
