Attacked by a breeders yorkie

In all honesty I would be very weary about a breeder that lets her pups go so young. Usually 12 weeks is the minimum. Even though it's only 3 weeks that 3 weeks gives the pups more socialization, and the mother is still correcting bad behaviors. As for the aggressive behavior the mother sounds like she was not properly socialized as a pup, or the people don't get her out and around others and the dog is fear nipping. I don't belive it is the dogs fault at all I feel its the breeders. Having said that... these are just MY personal opinions, others will probably not agree and that's okey dokey.

Yeah,, I agree about the 12 week thing too. I believe the breeder is going on a trip. She said she can hold til 11 weeks max. I think I am forgiving a lot of things that are no-nos. But she in my opinion is not a professional breeder. She has two nice looking,small akc yorkies and she had pups. Gorgeous. So I am emotional buying which is probably wrong. But someone is going to buy these babies.

See thats where it gets tough, in which case it is up to you. I would just go with your gut feeling on this one. Your first gut feeling is usually your best. Whatever your gut tells you go with it.

I called the breeder back this morning for a second visit.. Maybe if the mom sees me again she will feel more comfortable. Breeder never called me back! I wonder if she thinks it was us with the bad vibe. Oh well I guess I got my answer. Maybe she sold them? My pride will not let me call twice. The search continues. Thanks so much for all your opinions..

thanks..head still spinning. Breeder called back, and now I am kind of wishing she had sold them so I wouldn't have to think so hard about it anymore.

Seems like a red flag to me. I also am a dog breeder and would have trouble with this behavior. I would not buy this puppy

As we reflect back we were holding our parents chihuahuas earlier that day..older, healthy and vaccinated..but do you think maybe the mom picked up the other dogs scent and this set her off? or should that have not still happened?

I think some dogs are just kept in the home and don't get out much. They are naturally suspicious of others outside their own home. Of course they are sweet to their owners. But that doesn't mean it transfers to outsiders.

I had a little yorkie that hated men with big feet! I'm not kidding. Anyone who came into the house with big clunky tennis shoes got their ankle nipped. That was just threatening to her. But she was sweet as could be to people with smaller feet. Go figure. Dogs can have their own little quirks. That doesn't mean it will be passed on to the puppies, especially if their life is different than the parent's life.

I'd be more concerned with health issues. If the parents looked healthy, was the home clean, were the puppies clean and healthy. Then I'd probably buy the little puppy and give it a better socialized life than its mom had.

Thanks.. that is funny about the shoe thing. umm. The house was immaculate, gated community, retired couple, she also had a westie.. very clean parents although she thought they needed a bath. Puppies clean and happy. Clean ears, no hernias, played happily in her grassy backyard. Ears were down. They went up and down. So did moms.. so I guess I have to decide soon or they will be gone.

Some of my moms are nervous when people come to look but they never nip. Yorkies can get over protective of their owners and pups. It's up to the owner to tell that dog it's not ok to act like that. If the parents are healthy and she has a health guarantee, and you like the looks of them, I would not rule them out just because of the mom acting like that. Well the guarantee is not really what I think a guarantee is..I have a few days to get her to a vet. If she checks out healthy then all is good. If she is sick then I can return her. 1 yr health guarantee no. So as far as health screens for parents She has not done them. She says her dogs are healthy. So I am taking a huge risk.. that is what concerns me. These are just a retired couple who wanted to breed their female before they spay her and they are akc registered for 1100. They have the small features we all like and they are going to be about 4 to 6 lbs females. So I like the look, all else is taking a chance.
