Are you talking to Amanda or us? :D

Both.:) I guess we don't have much choice.

Amanda, I hope you enjoyed your birthday. Everyone has been on pins and needles waiting.

amanda350 05-07-2008 06:39 AM

Oh yeah, I am so rude.. Thank you everyone for the Happy Birthday's.. I was just reading a thread about puppies being absorbed a week or two before whelping.. Could this have happened to her? What could be taking so long. I am concerned because there are some posts on here about vets saying if your dog goes a certain number of days over 63 then there was reason to worry.. If I don't know when day 63 is then how will I know when to worry?

Tnyorkiemom 05-07-2008 06:47 AM

well amanda like i said before i am not a breeder yet....but i have talked to my breeder alot about stuff like this and this is what she said" if you are ever in doubt about a due date or anything after the 63rd day...call the vet...they may say everything is fine..on the other hand they may want to do an exam or another x-ray...especially if there is a chance of the pups being too big for her to have naturally....if it was me and i was worried i would just call the vet...they are great about reassuring you and doing what is best for the mommy and pups....good luck

At this point in her pregnancy she would not absorb them. I had a female go 69 days one time and she had been loaded with milk for a week. I took her to the vet and he just looked at her and said just take her home, she is just fine. I went home and she started having pups about two hours later and all was fine. You really don't know when she bred so I just feel you are being a worry-wart. There are a lot of us like that. Are the puppies getting a lot more active? How is mom's appetite?

The pups are not very active and she still has her appetite. I am concerned because she is so big and she keeps getting bigger. I am afraid of their being 2 large pups and her not being able to deliver..I don't know why he told me anytime now a week ago if she could still have another week to go..Shouldn't he know that..I think I will call the vet for some reassurance....

I agree with what you said eariler, if a breeder is unexperienced and has doubts, for peace of mind just call the vet or go see the vet. I have plenty of experience with my dogs but talking to someone over the internet and not really being there and seeing for yourself, sometimes it is hard to tell others what to do. All I can do is relay what I would do. I have had several females go 69 days and many went over 63 days and none of them every had problems delivering. Like you said the biggest concern would be a large puppy but even then you would still want the female to start labor and try to deliver naturally.

Good Morning....

See, I knew she'd wait for mom to have her birthday. Now, don't forget I have this evening into the night time. I'm sure she will have them today. :animal36

I've forgotten how many we are looking for... has the vet said?

Maybe she just needs a ride in the car then!!

katelin 05-07-2008 08:15 AM

I try to give mom a little walk outside -- nothing strenuous or fast, just back and forth in front of the house a couple times as she wants to do. She won't really see the outside for a long time -- do you think they get cabin fever too?

YorkieChick1 05-07-2008 11:01 AM

Wow, I can't believe how full this waiting room has gotten....surprised we haven't been kicked out by the mean nurse!! We are all pacing the floor...

Maybe it's like when you are pregnant and nearer your due date...the gyn says....any day now. So you go home...thinking...any day, this is it, any day....and any days add up to more than a week. Sometimes I think they said that...because we expect them to say something.

tatertot15 05-07-2008 01:29 PM

tobysmom328 05-07-2008 02:45 PM

So I've been watching this thread for forever it seems in hopes to see "WE HAVE PUPPIES!!!!" I wanted to say happy belated birthday Amanda, and I'm sure you'll do just great when Kallie decides to have her puppies, or rather when they decide for her! Best of luck and we're praying for you, Kallie, Stewie, and the pups! Good luck!

RockinRhonda 05-07-2008 03:22 PM

Amanda
As long as she is not nesting ,panting or any of these she is fine,I as a breeder would take my girl to vet tobe xrayed again. You said he could not see real well.THe closer she is the more you can see bone structure. You say she is getting bigger ,so take her back and reashore your self. You are not being pushy. You are making this worse on your self. And it is only natural since this is first time and noy planned.
Rhonda

LOL, that is so funny and probably true. Towards the end of a pregnancy it's a safe thing to say- they are bound to be right almost all of the time.:p

Amanda I am not a breeder but I check this thread every day and am on pins and needles waiting for your girl. She certainly has her cheering section all lined up!:)

mypreciouspups 05-07-2008 04:19 PM

Still in the waiting room, she better soon have them or I will be having my own...lol

Everytime I get an email with this thread.. I think oh this is it..

waiting patiently with the rest.. I think all the snacks are covered now too...anne

pupppyluvx0 05-07-2008 04:50 PM

loveyorks 05-07-2008 04:55 PM

Just checked in to see if we had puppies, but from the last threads I guess we're still playing at being patient - god it's almost as bad as when my daughter was having her baby...LOL:D
