another girl, but i cut the umbilical chord too short and she won't stop bleeding. what should i do?

if you can get a hold on it sqeeze it litely to try to stop the bleeding

if you need me to i can try to ask another breeder what to do

good i put a shout out to see if someone else knew what to do....im not a breeder yet....just learning...i know when pups where born at my grandma's ...if one was cut too short she put flour on it....but dont know what ya do for yorkies

Do you have hemostats? those are fine ponted and you should be able to clamp them around the end of the cord even if it is too short. that will stop the bleeding. If not pinch it with your fingers. Not the best way but will work .

yes I used the hemostats. gonna take a break and will get on again later.

I always keep dental floss on hand to tie the cord off if it is bleeding. Hopefully you have it under control now.

That's what I had heard too (dental floss), but was afraid to say anything because I am not a breeder. I was thinking the experienced ones should say something. Hopefully everything is alright now.

Gina (Bellagina) has 5 pups . So far 4 girls and 1 boy. I have been up all night and she started having them at 4:15am and the 5th one was born 6:00am. I know there is definitely 1 more. I'm Tired, happy and relieved...everyone is doing ok and mom is doing a good job. I will let you all know what the last one will be. Will post pictures later!

Hey just wanted new peeps to learn...buy a good scale!!! I guessed at my pups weights because I bought a cheap scale, dumb me:( From what I could figure weights were 6.0,5.5,5.0 and 4.5 in that order, the boy being first born. All doing wonderfully including Mama Rose. Will post pics asap.
