I see nothing overly harsh either. It just sounds like the OP is not well educated on breeding and purbred dogs and those of us passionate about this breed don't want to see someone who hasn't done thier homework do something so rash as to breed her purebred yorkie to a poodle and THINK it is the right thing to do, because it is NOT.

As for the reason i want to breed my yorkie, Well I think most people will think the same reason, to get the money back for the dog. I paid 500 for it and wouldn't mind getting 500 out of him. I have talked to many breeders and told them the same thing, and they totally agree. Ive talked to my vet and she said yorkiepoos are registered purebred, so for the people that say no, I will go with my vet on this one as she has been a vet for longer than i have been alive. I have to agree with the last post, you guys were getting a little harsh. I know that my male will make beautiful puppies with whatever he breeds, and im only going to breed him once. So what is the big deaL???

Isn't the love and companionship that he gives you worth $500.? Must he work producing substandard pups to earn his keep? I guess I really don't understand the mentality behind wanting to breed what is obviously a pet quality dog to anything that will breed to it to earn back his purchase price.

If I didn't want to get into breeding yorkies, then I wouldn't have purchased such a expensive dog. I love my yorkie and I wouldn't ever trade him for anything. He is such a good dog, and loving dog, but I want to breed him, just like mymother wants to breed her teacup yorkie. Eventurally my breeder is going to help me get another female and i will do the same with her. I really dont see anything wrong with wanting to breed him. Have you ever seen yorki-poos. They are adorable. What do u all feel about the Morkies? they are mixed dogs also? But I dont see you complaining to the lady that owns morkies? just complaining on what i want to do with max..

so,, you "paid 500 for IT"???? so your intention in purchasing this Yorkie is to just make money? Here you will find Yorkie Lovers,who love the breed & hate to hear of it being lessened. As for your vet,,,while I'm glad you are taking your little guy to a vet,, I'm afraid I'd be hunting a new one! (if she knows so little as to tell you a crossbed dog is AKC registerable!) I wish your Yorkie a good happy life!

I paid 3,200. on average for my yorkies. 500. is cheap! I was a vet tech and worked in a vet's office - yorkie-poos are not registered with AKC, but other registries. Did you ask which registry? And vets do not know all about the standard of all breeds - I should know, I have had to teach mine. I also had to teach him which length to dock the tails. They know medicine, not about the standard of all breeds, there are too many for them to know.
I am just stating the facts.

What do uthink im that stupid and not take my dog to a vet. I have two other dogs here at my house, both of them are mutts,but they are the most loving dogs ever, and Yes i take them to the vet also. I dont know much about you guys, and if you guys are rich or not, but $500.00 for a dog is expensive to me. Im a stay at home mother of two, and we have income coming into the house weekly, and its hard to make ends meet sometimes. So yes the main reason we purchased "MAX" Was to breed him and see if we could get extra money. As we are living in NYS and we are in a severe depression now, and money is hard to come by right now. If i can at least make 500 for max, then i would be happy, and then get him neutered. Im not the type of person to just keep breeding and breeding him. Ive done some research, and the main reason i came to this site was to further my research. So for the people that are being harsh, then I advise you to see how low-income people survive, and understand that money is tight to come by, and we need everybit that comes even if that means breeding him out to a poodle.

I've never even SEEN a $500 Yorkie!! I have seen a couple of $700 "yorkies",, who I could honestly say were the most homely things,, so ill-bred. I'm sorry its just sad. I can only guess you are very young and will hope you can use Yorkie Talk to help educate yourself on such a wonderful breed of dog, and hope your interest in making money off of "it" could turn into a LOVE of the Yorkshire Terrier and allow yourself the ability to learn something of the breed, its history, care, breed requirements & standards. There are so many here with such great knowledge to share, (not myself,, I'm learning here daily and enjoying every bit of it). Please,, since you've found YT,, please take advantage of the knowledge to be found here. Check out the different forums here, you'll be amazed at what you can learn!

I spent 1200 on a good well bred excellent pedigree male ,Well he got to big to use as a stud so he was neuterd. 1200 out and a vet visit for neutering.Now he is a pet
Then had to look forever to find another one that would be the same qualitiy I wanted and spent a ton of money on that one.NOW i have a great breeder to use with my females.We cannot just buy anything that is cheap to breed with because we are low income to make money.
We are low income also 4 kids at home one in college and qualify for everything that is available free school meals etcc.
I have saved and saved to do this it was just not a oh I am going to buy a yorkie,the cheapest I can find and then use them to try and make money.
There is other ways to make money. I am a stay at home mom also but run a day care and have had other jobs working at night when my hubby gets home for extra income.
And if you are not going to keep using him ,you made your 500 back that he cost you, now you have a dog you have to pay for neutering and feed besides?? And future vet bills with shots and illnesses if they come up? Pets cost money also even when you are not using them for breeding

I do think it depends on area what might cost you 3200 might cost me 1200-2000 here.JMO
500 is cheap here also for pet quality.

for the people that think just because is spent 500 on my dog he isn't a pretty dog and comes from a good breeder ext... he has a exxcellent pedigree, his dam and sire are both champion show dogs. The reason i got him for 500 is because my husband works with her fiance and i also help with the animals. So she worked me out a deal. If was to buy him for the full price, he would have cost me 1500. There is nothing homely about max. when i get around to it, ill be posting some pictures..

Why do some people feel they must recoup the cost of a dog? A dog is a family member, our friend and companion. $500 for 12 to 15 years of love is a very low price...do you feel a need to recoup vet and food expenses over his life time?

AND..why do these threads cause such heated and harsh posts..because making money on the backs of our companions is one of the surest ways to cause a huge amount of suffering...we hate to see animals of any sort suffer at the hands of the "unenlightened"...you have no idea what type puppies your dog will produce and will have little say what happens to the future of the offspring over their lifetime, unless you keep them all....simply finding good homes from the outset, does not mean they will not land in a puppymillers hands at some point...or their offspring.

You are saying your male is from champion show dogs and the show breeder is just fine and dandy with you making "mixes" of his genes...I do not believe it?
