| I had kinda figured about $500 for the cardiologist . As far as getting another puppy from the same sire but different dam: I do not plan on breeding any of these dogs so I am willing to take a chance that the others will not have this problem. My vet said that usually it is only one out of the litter when it happens. Of course, if this shows up again I will ask for a refund and return the dog. i can't afford the money nor heartache for more sick puppies.

| OK lets say somehow a grade 3 slipped by our vet during their checkups with her...if this was found, I would give you back your money, and want the puppy back so that I can monitor the problem, have it properly diagnosed and treat it. I have never heard of a grade 3 being an innocent murmur...sadly this is probably a congential problem that may be very serious. I woulod hesitate to buy from the breeder again because this puppy either was not properly vet checked or the breeder sold it knowing it had a problem...as far as I know these things just do not show up all the sudden! I am so sorry you are having to deal with this...

| In the long run, what is most important is that you are comfortable with whatever arrangements are made. I know a breeder who had a similar situation several years ago. What she did is make a new contract that says if the murmer (wasn't a murmur in her case, I can't remember what she said it was) disappears by 18 months old then the Buyer pays "X amount" for the puppy. And if it didn't, then the price was reduced to "X amount". Both amounts were reduced from the original price, with the latter amount obviously a much greater reduction (or even free.) If you are close to the breeder, and they are also comfortable with this, then it might be a good solution for both of you. I would not immediately conclude that the breeder is at fault--it could be that she needs to find a new vet. Last edited by BakersDozen; 03-11-2008 at 11:53 AM. |
