You are absolutely right. With the law of supply and demand that comes with that #2 ranking (I think it's actually #1 now) come some other disturbing statistics:

* Yorkies are thirty-six times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined according to the study done by Dr. Tobias at the University of Tennessee

* Yorkies are ranked #4 in cases of luxating patellas by the Orthopedic Foundation of America

With the AKC estimating that 70% of purebred dogs come from backyard breeders, not puppymills, the responsibility of producing the majority of those genetically flawed dogs must lie with the backyard breeders.

I just read the thread from the beginning and I am anxious to hear what happened at the vet and to see the new hair cuts. I Hope you can post pictures and that your dogs got a clean bill of health. Welcome to YT.

Just letting everyone know that they are still at the vet and getting groomed so I don't know much yet. They aloow drop offs, so I drop them off there and when they are through they call me to come and pickup!

I have all the info she supplied when she bought the dog. She kept in touch for a long time and I have been trying to reach her because my girl is old enough to breed and I am supposed to get a female from her first breeding. She had an awesome pedigree.

Well i truely hope things work out for you. I couldn't imagine if i had babies and lost touch for that long i would probably go nuts

I agree. When money is involved I think many forget what kind of puppies they're raising. I don't want to say anymore because it's been said and chances are people will do EXACTLY what they want to do no matter what we say. It's sad and I feel bad for the yorkies but there's many out there thinking the same way...it's all about the $$$$$

And leaving one message won't do anything. You need to become a nuisance. Leave a message every day - every other day....I wouldn't let it go.

Thank you, I wasn't referring to you specifically...just the general "vibe" of the thread lol.

And I absolutely DO NOT think that everyone should be allowed to breed. It does irritate me when people just out of the blue decide they want to breed their pet and have no idea what they're doing. That's irresponsible and puts all of us who actually work so hard to get where we get in a bad position.

as for making a little extra money. hun it could go either way. you may pay out more then you make.
but I dont see any problems with saying making a little extra money. Im sorry but there are breeders out there breeding for this same thing. most of them would not even breed if they didnt make some thing. and it just erks me when I see people saying Oh My Gosh make extra money when thats most likely what they are doing. If there was no money in it then we wouldnt have as many people breeding as we do today.

I'm sorry, but I have a HUGE issue with anyone who says, "I started breeding to make extra money." If somewhere in the mix of it all you manage to be in the green when it's all said and done, that's a bonus, but when your primary goal in what you are doing is just for income, that's WRONG.
