You are absolutely right. With the law of supply and demand that comes with that #2 ranking (I think it's actually #1 now) come some other disturbing statistics:
* Yorkies are thirty-six times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined according to the study done by Dr. Tobias at the University of Tennessee
* Yorkies are ranked #4 in cases of luxating patellas by the Orthopedic Foundation of America
With the AKC estimating that 70% of purebred dogs come from backyard breeders, not puppymills, the responsibility of producing the majority of those genetically flawed dogs must lie with the backyard breeders.
