Does anyone keep their breeding yorkies outside in a kennel? I have just bought me breeding yorkies...I have 3 females and 1 male and they are outside...Doing fantastic!!!! I also have a huge fenced in yard I let them out in to run and play...I bring them in about once a week to do some grooming and bonding not counting all the time I spend outside with them....my main question is does anyone else do this??? If so could I please see pics of your outside kennel...I haven't got mine started yet they are just in a temporary pen. |
Do outside kennels protect them from the elements. Will they be keep warm in the winter, cool in the summer? Good luck! |
I KNOW people that do it...but personally it's just not for me. I couldn't imagine not having them all in the house with me 24/7. I would worry too much about them. Is your kennel enclosed and heated/cooled? What kind of set up do you have (where do they stay within the kennel)? |
In a pen outside??? Why not bring them in? |
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo my 4 are all in the house with me |

I personally would never buy from a breeder who kept their Yorkies outside in a kennel. This is just my personal preference!!! I prefer breeders who keep their Yorkies in the home. When you say you just got 4 Yorkies for breeding....did you buy them from another breeder? What is the history of these Yorkies? ....age, weight, health, etc... Are they accustom to being outside or where they indoor pets? |
I don't agree with keeping them outside at all. My feeling is why have them if you cant have them in the house for the wonderful companionship they offer. I would never keep any of mine outside! They are always inside and spoiled rotten as they should be. |
From your profile "I thought I would start breeding to make some extra cash on the side." Well your're in for a rude awakening, especially if something goes wrong. |
i am not going to say a whole lot in case this person is one of "those' but i would never buy from anyone that kept their dogs outside if I know it and if they are housed out with no heat or cooling, i would probably report them to animal abuse. |

I am first and foremost a mom!!! I am married to the love of my life and I am also a stay at home mom! Besides my family yorkies are my babies!!! I love them so much, I thought I would start breeding to make some extra cash on the side. I have to say you are breeding for the wrong reason. You won't be making extra cash and you will be lucky to break even at best. Now I am going to keep my mouth shut before I say something not so polite. |
I understand some who have them in outside kennels in certain situations but only in temporary situations or short intervals at a time. However, I respect those breeders more who treat them as their family and keep them as house pets first before treating them as "employees"! If that's your preference, I guess it's okay as long as they're interacted with alot and know that they are loved as family members first and not breeding machines. Oh, and as long as the kennels are well adaptable for each season too. Good Luck with your program! |

Check out the puppy lemon law. Are you willing to risk your bitch just to make some "extra cash on the side"? If you love these dogs so much why are you going force them to live seperate from you in an outdoor kennel? |
