| I didn't know it was genetic either... when the vet first told me I thought well it will probably close and things will be fine, then she told me all the problems he could have in the future and I knew it would not be a wise decision to breed him. Lesson learned on my part. |

| I bought a mom not knowing she was prego until a few weeks after we had her home (she was very early in the pregnancy when we bought her) when she had the pups they all had large open fontanels (sp), she had 4. We spent tons of $$ trying to save the babies but lost 3 of them. The mom was spayed since we didnt know if it came from her or the dad. I had never heard of it before this happened. Now it is the one thing I ask about among the hundreds of other things when buying a pup or choosing a stud for my females (we have 2). |

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry that happened. How can you tell if a puppy has one. Is it like a dent in their head. Is it real soft and obvious? Thanks

| Shes doing great. Shes a little over a year old now. She has not had any problems so far, the opening is not as large as it was, but it is still there. The little boy (who was the last to pass away) had it the worst. His was very large. |

It will feel just like a dent, (although you can't really see it) they can be different sizes so you just gently feel the top of the head with a finger, it's just like a babies soft spot. My boys was pretty much right between the ears. It's when the bones do not fully close. It can cause problems in the future. | |

| I would not be concerned if your pet puppy has a small open fontanel...the size is important and smaller then the diameter of a pencil rarely causes any concern...I had a 3 pounder live 14 yrs with hers..never a sick day in her life until the week before her death..and that was from her heart. As to breeding stock, I would look for a solid skull. Most vets realize now that the smaller toy breeds can have this and it is not a forecast of problems to come...a domed head, with bulging eyes and open fontanel is another story...best wishes |

| It's amazing but unfortunately this is an ugly part of the dog show world. You just hear these horror stories about what some of them do. Some exhibitors/breeders partner up and make money in this way. This person knew very well about the open font or if they didn't, that's even worse. You did the right thing by returning it and you're lucky the person knew they HAD to give you the money back. They were just hoping you were dopey enough for them to get over on you. |
