They say it's a descriptive word, and adjective. Small and tiny are adjectives. Teacup is a noun. It' just obvious they use it as a buzzword to get more money from those unedumacated lol. Smart well meaning first time buyers who haven't really research yet. Unfortunately with these kind of breeders you can also find other characteristics that come along with the money ploy. Such as breeding 3 lb females, etc....There are plenty of smaller ones that are thrown in a normal litter.

I guess there is nothing we can do other than offering words of advice to buyers to those who ask. Beats me, they're everywhere.

I have a question. I don't like the word teacup either, it sounds like your selling tea!!! LOL but what size are people talking about when they say teacup?? I have a 5 month old that weighs a little over 2 lbs and he is very sturdy and not frail at all. Do you think he is what they are referring to?

I'm confronting a breeder now!!! I'm trying to sell my cousins yorkie and asked this breeder a few questions because she dragging great lines to the bottom. Help me people! LOL

I think its meant for dogs that are under the standard of 4-7 lbs.

I can't tell you how many times people stop me when I'm with my baby and ask if he is a "teacup," "micro miny," or "tiny"...i find myself talking to them for a half an hour about how there is no such thing as a teacup...that it is a word just to describe the size of a yorkie. Many seem confused, few understand.

Thats just about the first word out of peoples mouths.

How big are they?
Are they T-cups?
How much?

All you have to do is look at the Az Republic on Sunday. It has about 40 Yorkie adds per week, most claiming they have T-cups.

The best thing to do is when questioned is to explain to people. I always do when they ask about my Zoie. I tell them there isn't any such thing and I would be concerned if your breeder used that word since there isn't a term that is correcct. If you have a breeder using that term that is incorrect I would be worried about what other things they do incorrectly. Why string people along and get more bucks out of it for giving them an incorrect term. Breeders should have more respect for the breed than that.

Just say what I say, They ask: Are your yorkies teacups? I say, sorry there really isn't such a thing as a teacup yorkie. Yes almost every yorkie is tiny. They are suppose to be between 4 and 7 pounds. No, they are NOT teacups.

I think most people use that term because it describes a very small Yorkie. I don't know why they can't just say what the parents weigh and what they think the pup will weigh when grown. That term is used in other breeds also, like teacup poodle and teacup chuhuahua. Personally, I think everyone is spending too much time worrying about the term. Most people use it just because they either don't know any better or don't care what other people think. Now what upsets me is not the term 'teacup' but the fact that people are breeding 3 lbs Yorkies. Now those breeders that are selling 'teacups' for thousands of dollars, they are Yorkie scalpers, just like there are ticket scalpers, people that are just out to make big bucks and take advantage of unknowing buyers.
