"Yes you are right you will get alot of people who will tell you this breeding should NOT have taken place. First heat cycle and 3 lb females should NOT have been bred, however they are and I will do my best to answer your questions for you to the best of my abilities.

Question 1. - You should begin counting from the first tie.

Question 2. - X-rays should be taken on or near day 55 and YES they are needed(especially under your circumstances). Your female is very small and the xray will tell you how many she is expecting, the babies size and allow you to properly see if she can even have them on her own or if a c-section should be scheduled. I would have to say most likely she will need a c-section, but your vet will determine that after the x-ray.

Question 3. - The dangers you should know are many since it is her first heat and your female isn't mature enough for this breeding. You can lose your female from this breeding and should watch her closely.

Iam not a breeder, Just wanted to wish your little girl the very best if indeed she is expecting, my molly is 10mths and 3.5pds, I just couldnt imagine her being a mommy, she is so small, I really do wish you the best. and iam glad you came here to get some advise, there are some wonderful breeders here.

It is to my understanding that AKC will not allow the puppies to be registered if the sire is over 7 months and the dam is over a year. Am I right?

Sorry, I know the breeder of the male and she would NEVER have approved your breeding him to a 3# puppy on her first heat. And if was he sold as a breeder....not to be used at 7 months.

I am sorry for the little girl--you have probably put her life at risk. I hope the original breeder of your little girl reclaims her; does she know? Is she one of the breeders who said it was "okay" to breed her???

WHOOPS, I meant if the sire ISN'T over 7-8 months and the dam isn't over a year.

AKC will not register a litter that is sired by a male that is under 7 months old or by a dam that is under 8 months of age (page 16, rules for registration).

Yes, the Sire does have to be 7 months old for the AKC to reconize the breeding.

The breeder of the male is furious and I'm sure Dawn you will hear from her, if you haven't already. I sure hope both breeders remove their dogs/puppies. My opinion is that this was not a smart choice on your part and I hope you have a parent or adult figure in your life that is more responsible than you are.

Dawn, I'm sorry I believe you are not old enough or responsible enough to be a breeder, or a pet owner at this time. Too bad you put a little girl at risk.

those breeders should have known better than to sell to someone who has already shown sketchy breeding practices...breeding her yorkie to her sister's chihuahua to produce "chorkies" on purpose

Doesn't surprise me a bit to see her breeding puppies now

A breeder I know who never breeds her females unless they are close to 5 lbs listened to her vet and she took a chance on her 3 1/2 lb female and she almost lost her. she did lose all three puppys and said she never should of listened to her vet. Breeding that small is just taking to big a chance.
I hope your girl will be ok.

I just don't get how a vet could think it's safe to breed such a small dog
