| Quick breeder medical question Maybe not so quick but….. Here’s the situation…. 6 month female, 2.5 lbs. During my normal 12 week observation period, I noticed no signs of hypoglycemia or any genetic issues. The puppies were all vet checked at 12 weeks with a clean bill of health. Puppy is not eating properly for new owner. I recommend at least 30 -45g per day with very small puppies up to 6 months old. In the new owner's wanting to find a food the puppy eats well, the puppy has been switched from Science Diet, to Prescription wet, and now is on Royal Canine. Anyway, all that said, the puppy is exhibits the following symptoms from time to time according to the owner…. Seizures (i.e. falling over while walking / staggering), abnormal behavior (i.e. shying away from owner), whining, lack of appetite, shaking, little weight gain. Owner’s veterinarian is a little stumped, but we are doing a conclusive liver test in the morning to rule out PSS. I took possession of the puppy last night for a two week observation period. She ate about 20g of Royal Canine, has been very active (playing), no episodes of hypoglycemia or others mentioned above. She is utd on all vaccines, very active, EENT is ok, heart rate is normal, lungs are clear, her overall body condition is good. She has a Blood Glucose of 84, Her CBC and Electrolytes profile was normal, her NH3 Ammonia test was on the low end of normal. Temp is normal. Any suggestions or explanations of similar issues would be appreciated…. I have to say, I’m a bit stumped as well…. (BTW, i have a female, same size litter mate that exhibits no abnormalities) |

| Honestly,I would be very concerned about the new owners. The puppy sounds like it is happy and flourishing in your home....why so many problems with the buyers?? Do you trust that the people are properly caring for this puppy? Do you think that they are making some of this up....maybe a little bit of "buyer's remourse"? Tammy |

| It sounds exactly like a liver shunt or MVD to me. It is a good thing that you are testing for that because the symptoms match.

| Pss The new owners, although a bit nervious, are really excellent pet owners. I thoroughly grill potential buyers prior to placing a depost, so generally I get a good or not so good feeling right away..... My buyers are well aware that I am here 24/7 after they buy a pup from me, thus the two week observation. The puppy is doing very well here; However, PSS was one of my first gut feelings about this as a possible problem. There, for the most part, seems to be no rhyme or reason to PSS and scientific research is sketchy at best..... I've produced multiple litters with this male / female combination with no issues..... Either way, we will get her fixed up..... I'm just perplexed that the routine screening for PSS came back negative, which is why we are stepping it up a bit tomorrow. The name escapes me at the moment, but I believe the test will be sent off to Texas A&M for screening and we should have results in a couple of days. |

| just a thought , if the tests come back okay, check the cleaner they use in their house and maybe even the toys the puppy is chewing on for lead. I wish this puppy the best and his owners |

| Let us know how the test results turn out. I really wonder if she was just having problems adjusting to the move and her new environment (stress). Plus, she had changes in food as well. Sometimes (as I'm sure you know) they just don't take to change well. Beings how she seemed to be just fine after you got her back home. Sometimes it takes them a good 2 weeks to adjust to their new surroundings. Were they by chance giving her any nutrical?
