Quick breeder medical question Maybe not so quick but….. Here’s the situation…. 6 month female, 2.5 lbs.
During my normal 12 week observation period, I noticed no signs of hypoglycemia or any genetic issues. The puppies were all vet checked at 12 weeks with a clean bill of health. Puppy is not eating properly for new owner. I recommend at least 30 -45g per day with very small puppies up to 6 months old. In the new owner's wanting to find a food the puppy eats well, the puppy has been switched from Science Diet, to Prescription wet, and now is on Royal Canine. Anyway, all that said, the puppy is exhibits the following symptoms from time to time according to the owner…. Seizures (i.e. falling over while walking / staggering), abnormal behavior (i.e. shying away from owner), whining, lack of appetite, shaking, little weight gain. Owner’s veterinarian is a little stumped, but we are doing a conclusive liver test in the morning to rule out PSS. I took possession of the puppy last night for a two week observation period. She ate about 20g of Royal Canine, has been very active (playing), no episodes of hypoglycemia or others mentioned above. She is utd on all vaccines, very active, EENT is ok, heart rate is normal, lungs are clear, her overall body condition is good. She has a Blood Glucose of 84, Her CBC and Electrolytes profile was normal, her NH3 Ammonia test was on the low end of normal. Temp is normal. Any suggestions or explanations of similar issues would be appreciated…. I have to say, I’m a bit stumped as well…. (BTW, i have a female, same size litter mate that exhibits no abnormalities) |
