All I ever wanted from training my dogs was to keep them from running away from me.

I got a little carried away with the obedience and performance classes, but deep down I've always been completely satisfied with them because I don't have dogs who bolt out of the house and down the street at the first opportunity they get.

I got in a dogfight with a pit bull today. He was in the midst of pouncing on Eddie, and the only thing that came to mind was to pounce on him. Miraculously, I won. Eddie didn't get hurt. And we all walked away nervous but unhurt.

It was one of those situations I've heard described here on YT many times. Funny, when others described it, something in the back of my mind always thought "You know, it might have been avoided if ..." But it's been 10 hours since the attack, and...

As my last two blogs can attest, I've been hung up on Eddie's senior years for the last year or so. He's 11 now, and I honestly feel I've worked my way through the fear of his aging and I've come to embrace it.

I've come to the conclusion that Eddie's kinda like the Toby Keith song: "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was."...
