Thor knocks his resolutions out of the park!
So as I mentioned in my last post, Thor has put himself on a rigorous schedule of self-improvement. I'm happy to report that he is doing quite well!
House Training: we're still working on this one, but I think we have a solid method in place: crate, pee pads, and the "potty" command.
Stay: Making some progress.
Doggie Daycare and doggie play: I was forced to board Thor for three days last week on short notice. The trainer there told me that he actually made play bows with other dogs there. I was thrilled! I wish so much I could have seen it myself. He shows a lot more confidence after just those three days. This is not to say he's not still terrified of other dogs - he is - but it's kind of a playful terror now, rather than full-blown, DEFCON 5 level terror.
Shake hands: He's getting this one down! He can give his paw at chest level now. He still kind of pats my hand rather than placing it down, but the action is very reliable. In fact, he tends to paw at the end of every command now, just in case.
High Five: I'm not going to try this until he's really solid on the hand shake.
More generally, this was one of those days where you realize how much you love your dog. This morning, Thor demonstrated that he's completely on top of the "Potty" command.
Then in the afternoon we went to the park and played a solid hour of fetch. He would have happily gone for another hour after that. I, on the other hand, would have happily stopped after fifteen minutes. But every time I picked the ball up to put back in my purse, he got soooo excited that I threw it to make him happy just one more time.
Then in the evening, we pottied again, and played "attack mommy's hands." He rolls on his back and bites my fingers but he's so darn cute I can't help but play with him.
Finally, he's lying asleep on my couch. He wakes up every so often to make sure I'm still here and I stare into his deep brown eyes... Sigh. I love this little guy!
