Yorkies & Me

This is my Doggy Story. Ever since I was a child, I have had a dog. When I was five years old I was surprised by my parents with a little Poodle puppy, she was the beginning of a great love for dogs. Years later when I was on my own, I got two Poodle puppies named Nikki and Max, They were the centre of my life, Max lived to be 16 and Nikki lived to 18 years old. But now the Yorkies, one day I was visiting a relative who had two Yorkies, I had seen the dogs from time to time when visiting, but they always seemed to be in a cage in the kitchen, and I always wondered why, but this day they were out running around, they were so bouncy and fun. I thought to myself, these little guys are so cute, the poor Yorkies just seemed like they needed someone to pay attention to them. As I was getting ready to leave, the relative told me she was going away for ten days, and that she had not made arrangements for the dogs. I quickly thought, well I'm home all day, maybe I could take them. I mentioned this to her, and of course she said yes. I called my husband and told him I am coming home with two Yorkies. My Poodle Nikki was 18 at this time, and I was hoping they would get along. I came in the door with them in a small pet carrier, and a dirty old dog bed, which I got rid of right away, let them out of the carrier, they were so excited and happy, seemed unusual, because this was a new place for them, they ran around, jumped in Nikki's dog bed with her, I think they were so glad to be free (I never put them in that terrible cage again). The next day I gave them a bath, they needed it. Didi was so small (4.7 pounds) and so cute when she was wet. Abby was so matted it took me hours to comb her, she also had quite a beard, she looked like Wyatt Earp, but she looked beautiful after. They were definitley settled in, and would follow me everywhere. My husband said, "we should just keep them", I said "but they are not our dogs". The ten days went by quickly, and I was feeling sad that they had to go soon. The relative returned, and said she was too busy to pick them up, maybe a couple more days. The next time she called, she asked me if I wanted to keep them, I said "absolutely". Now Didi and Abby were mine, I had just fallen in love with these little guys, so now I can get rid of that terrible Wyatt Earp beard. They did some very cute and funny things, Didi would shake herself, and she almost lifted herself of the ground, she looked like a little tornado, she didn't care too much for large dogs, she ran up and bit a Rotti, and came back with fur in her mouth, and was so proud of it. My husband was sleeping on the couch with Abby on his chest, he was snoring, and every time he snored she would growl, like she was saying something to him. Abby was an absolute star when it came to children, our neices and nephews, just loved her. If I went to sleep first (they always slept in our bed) and my husband came in later, they would bark and chase him out of his own bed. When I would take them for walks people just thought they were so cute and so small, they always got alot of attention. Life with Didi and Abby was great. Awhile after, my dear Nikki was not doing well, and it was her time to go to heaven, I was heartbroken, I believe that these Yorkies came to me, to help ease the loss of her. We had many great years together, and after nine years Didi became sick with cancer, we did everything we could for her, my husband would cook for her, and we would hand feed her, we didn't want her to suffer any longer. Once again, I was heartbroken, I didn't know what to do, I felt so empty. Abby was still doing well, but I know she missed Didi. My husband said we should get another one, at first I didn't want to, but then after awhile just started looking. Well I did find another Yorkie named Chloe, and knew this was the dog for me. It turns out that she is so much like Didi, it's unbelieveable, I know Abby really loves her too. Chloe is always with me and now she is four years old, and we are one very happy Yorkie family again.
