Milestones with Eddie

For the past two years, I've been embracing Eddie's senior doghood. When he turned 10 two years ago, I started to lament his lost youth. But I decided he still had plenty to offer and he was much too young to mourn. Now that he's turned 12, I've successfully reached a place where I cherish every new behavior and I celebrate each and every milestone in his life.

Jillie passed her Pet Partners therapy dog test two days ago for the fourth time. I probably wouldn't be so proud if she hadn't done so spectacularly. In the test of 21 exercises, she had a perfect score of all 2's. Loving the senior years so far

As my last two blogs can attest, I've been hung up on Eddie's senior years for the last year or so. He's 11 now, and I honestly feel I've worked my way through the fear of his aging and I've come to embrace it.

I've come to the conclusion that Eddie's kinda like the Toby Keith song: "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was."...

It took a while, but I think I've started to embrace Eddie's senior years. In my last blog, I was a mess. Eddie had turned 10 and I was panicking over him entering his senior years. I was mourning his passing before he was even gone.

Eddie is turning 10 next month. May 5th to be exact. He's energetic, healthy, happy.

And I'm a mess.

I don't want him to get any older. I'm paranoid that, healthwise, it's going to be all downhill from here. I don't know if I can take that. He's been a shining light his whole life. An overachiever. An obedience star....
