Hi guys

My Loki is 9 weeks old and has just had a second jab. The vet warned me not to take him out for the next two weeks, which is understandable, but is that really a must? It spoils our efforts to teach him going potty outside, he was doing so well. We didn't take him for long walks, just a quick pee outdoors, on the grass, and I carried him back home before. I am just worried now that if we suddenly change it to a dog mat indoors he will stop wanting to go outside to do his business. Two weeks is a long time for a puppy. I live in a block of flast on the ground floor, full of neighbours' pets walking around and I would gladly just take him for a quick pop out, pee and back home, but I am scared I may jeopardise his health. Do you have any experience? Thanks for any hints

If your vet warns you not to take him outdoors why would you even question your vets orders. No puppy that is not fully vaccinated, has had their last vaccine should be outdoors walking were ppl and other dogs and animals have walked. He can get Parvo from soles of ppl's shoes if someone walked on infected area. There are squirrels, mice, rats, and other rodents on streets, sidewalks, grass that can carry rabies, why would you even chance it. All vaccines are given and finished when puppy is 5 months old, that is when outdoor training begins, NOT at 9 weeks old. Always listen to your vet or chance losing that wee lil baby, your choice.

When it is a personal fenced in back yard it’s safe generally but because it’s an area used by many it’s not a good idea. I do want to let you know that any shots he got before 8 weeks are useless meaning if he got some before 8 weeks you should not add it to the totally count of the needed 3 sets. I also would not take my puppy out to a largely used common area until 2 weeks after the third set of shots.

I understand your frustration with potty training but I would also suggest following your vet's advice. We were instructed to not even put our puppy on the ground outside of home until 2 weeks after last shot in the series of 3. Went out for the first time at 18 weeks old. We did rabies vaccine only at 6 months but rabies is different and our vet was okay with us taking him out.
