| ![]() Krissie is 17 weeks old this week. When I brush her, hair is in the brush. So I assume, like my maltese that she is blowing her coat. What should I expect from this? Right now she looks so raggedy. But she is so precious! Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks ![]()

| ![]() *BUMP* I want to know this too. My Tinkerbell is 15 weeks and there was a bunch of hair in the comb and brush after her bath today. I figured that it's just like with humansI. I lose hair daily when I brush it and wash it. I guess it should be the same with them. But, how much is too much to lose during a washing or brushing? |

| ![]() Ollie, (my Malt) had a puppy coat that graduated into an adult coat. Maltese people call it "blowing their puppy coat". Ollie's hair got much finer, and would easily mat! He never matted as a puppy. KrissieBella has the "PUPPY UGLIES" (sorry Krissie). My mother in law said that I should have named her RAGS!!!! Ollie went through that stage too, so I can see similarities here. Not being a former Yorkie owner, I wasn't sure. Still looking for answers? Peace and Love,....

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I'd like to know too. Mine is only about 16 1/2 weeks old but she does have the puppy uglies, I bathe, condition, brush, comb and 5 minutes later it looks like she has never been groomed in her life. Her head is more silver now and in a few spots I can see gold where black used to be (head). I'm a first time Yorkie owner too so everything is new lol.

| ![]() If is just little bolls of fur, it's just hair matts. I was away for the weekend, and trixie had a lot of those. I don't think she is blowing her coat. May be this is what is happening to your puppy |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() A yorkie's hair does change...but you really shouldn't be seeing more than a few tufts of puppy fur in a brush. I have never read about a yorkie puppy blowing it's coat, but have read about it happening to a female who has whelped.

| ![]() My vet has done a mite test because of itching and hair breakage, Tootsie does not have mites. He tells me what is actually happening is her hair is breaking off at new hair growth. He tells me it is because of the breeder feeding her mighty dog and me switching to better food. ( I currently feed Iams Puppy Performance) Now he is trying to get me to switch to Science Diet he says it is a better food.... I this just a vet thing? should I switch again? Gosh being a new yorkie parent is really tough!! Thanks for all the input. |

| ![]() Yorkie coats do turn from the black that they are born with to the blue and gold that they will become. Different lines do this at different rates of speed. You won't find all the puppy fur falling out to be replaced with adult coat but you will notice that hair dies and is replace by new hair just like ours. The coat changes texture as well as color and will often matt where the two textures meet. The puppy hair will eventually be cut away or wear away and the coat should no longer matt as easily.

I believe that all pups during this time go through the rag-muffin stage. They are changing and maturing. Be patient and you'll have a beautiful coat before you know it!
