Yorkie coats do turn from the black that they are born with to the blue and gold that they will become. Different lines do this at different rates of speed. You won't find all the puppy fur falling out to be replaced with adult coat but you will notice that hair dies and is replace by new hair just like ours. The coat changes texture as well as color and will often matt where the two textures meet. The puppy hair will eventually be cut away or wear away and the coat should no longer matt as easily.
