You have been breeding for 35 years and you don’t know what tests to give to the breeding parents? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-breeding.html Here is a thread you don’t know dogs have IBD http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...t-so-much.html You didn’t know Yorkies should be kept with their moms until 12 weeks either http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...identally.html You feed your puppies adult food – I didn’t respond on this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...dult-food.html Here is your Royal Cain thread and I never posted on it…but I will admit it is interesting that you have been studying food but not what tests should be given to your breeding pair or that dogs get IBD or what age to sell dogs http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...n-yorkies.html But you certainly could go on and on about tail docking http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ocking-29.html

| No Longer a Member | Something else Mars uses is Rennet from calfs stomach. ""15 January 2008 - When Mars in May of last year announced it would use animal rennet, a chemical from the stomach lining of calves, in some of its confectionery products, the company received a large amount of protest, and a few days later reversed its decision. Daily News Alerts - We respect your privacy - FLEXNEWS in May reported that the ingredient change had prompted consumer group the Vegetarian Society to issue a statement in which it expressed its ‘extreme disappointment’. Fiona Dawson, the managing director of the Mars snack business in Britain, said at the time: "The consumer is our boss and we had lots of feedback from consumers who were unhappy about the change. It became very clear, very quickly that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry'.' Eight months later, an investigation carried out by the Grocer magazine shows that rennet is still being used in at least three products: Twix, Milky Way and Celebrations. Sue Taylor, from the Vegetarian Society, told a UK daily that the company needs to add vegetarian-friendly labels on its chocolate bars. "It would be great if products were all correctly labelled. There simply isn't time to go to a website and look-up exactly what is in a brand, particularly for parents buying snacks for children”, said Mrs Taylor. A spokesman for Mars UK also told the daily: "Mars' biggest brands - Mars, Snickers, Galaxy and Maltesers - are suitable for vegetarians and are labelled as such in accordance with guidelines from the Food Standards Agency. Twix, Milky Way and Celebrations are not as they are made using a different recipe. At no stage have we claimed that they are suitable for vegetarians or that they would be.'' |

| Thanks Breezeaway...I knew I had read part of that during my research...while I am not a vegan I will never trust a company who twists the truth as it appears Mars has done with this issue. I also believe in truth in labeling on our foods for us and for our animals.

I agree with this, and I wish people would be against inhumane testing instead of animal testing. What wrong with finding a dog food that really does reduce the incidence of bladder stones in dogs? I mean actual proof that it does this. Mars isn't giving the dogs bladder stones, they are testing dogs that have already developed stones, and Mars is testing a variety of diets on these dogs to see if certain things lessen the probability of stones reoccurring. I applaud companies who do responsible animal testing.

| As long as it is someone else's dog .... ![]() There are many websites that you explain about animal testing and also what is done to test dog food. Many of those animals are kept in cages their entire life to see how the diet works for them. I can not believe anyone thinks it is okay for other dogs to live this way just so their dogs are feed correctly. Animal Testing, Animal Cruelty, Testing on Animals, Testing on Dogs, Lab Experiments, Dogs in Labs, Testing Here is just one part of what Iams does. Also I have seen dogs that were dead and had muscle cut out to see how the food works on a dogs . IAMS and animal testing In one experiment, 24 young dogs had their right kidneys removed and the left partly damaged to investigate how protein affects dogs with kidney failure. Eight dogs were killed to analyse the kidney tissue. Dogs which became sick were not treated because it would have undermined the test results. In another test, the stomachs of 28 cats were exposed so scientists could analyse the effects of feeding them fibre. The animals were operated on for at least two hours and then killed. The research team sterilised 24 female cats, which were then over-fed until they became obese. They were then starved on a crash diet and when they had lost at least 30 per cent of their weight their livers were examined to investigate the link between weight loss and liver disease. The company also sponsored research in which 14 husky puppies were repeatedly injected with live virus vaccines and allergy-causing proteins for the first 12 weeks of their lives. They developed permanent illnesses in the test, which was designed to see how severely allergic they could become. Twelve huskies, 12 poodles and 12 labradors were regularly given chest wounds to see if diet could affect fur regrowth. This was justified in the study on the grounds that "dogs are enjoyable to touch and look at... Dogs with coat problems are simply not handled as much." Dr Dan Cary, Director of technical communications for IAMS said that his company cared about the welfare of animals. He justified the scientific studies as being carried out to save pets from illnesses and improve physical well-being. He said: "Our mission is to enhance the health of dogs and cats. We take their welfare extremely seriously during the studies and don't enter into research lightly. All our studies have to be valid science and we have to be sure they are never repeated as it is wasteful of animal time."
