| Training classes What do you recommend for general training? Are pet smart classes okay? Is a trainer better? Any books you liked? |

| I did petsmart for puppy training, I felt is was pretty good. If you want more advanced training I might go to a professional.

| I found out my local petco is actually working with the stars program which covers akc good citizen and other really cool training courses that I was looking into through a high end training place. I would really like to check into it, maybe it is available in your area also?

| For just puppy classes, I think Petsmart would be fine, but also look around in your area for other trainers. I was able to find a highly reputable dog trainer who is also certified in dog behavior training in my area and it was actually cheaper than the pet store (petco) classes. I loved her and I also liked that I was able to ask her other unrelated questions that a pet store trainer may not be able to answer. ] |

| IDK...I went into Petco the other day to pick something up-on a Saturday- they were holding the training in the middle of the store (OK for more advanced) people were stopping and distracting them-and the 'trainers' were basically screeching 'No!' everytime the poor puppies got sidelined by a kid with a lollipop... On Long Island- we have a great local trainer who's been in business for over 20 years- we took our first Yorkie to her class and really learned a lot- especially with this breed...they can be really manipulative- Do a little research for a local trainer- this woman is about 30 bucks more than Petco- well worth it, IMHO-

| We're doing a beginner Petsmart course right now and i feel like they have a product for every issue instead of trying to fix the issue ya know? Oh your dog pulls on the leash, we have this harness that can stop that, your dog barks too much? we have this loud spray can thing you can buy that stops that..etc..It feels like they are trying to sell their products more than solve the issue IMO. I don't think i'll be taking another one at Petsmart..almost spend half the class watching her put these special harnesses on the dogs..like really?

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I took Galen to Petsmarts puppy classes. I found them great. The trainer was incredible with him. It was well worth it. And Galen actually sits now ! You can go and talk to the trainer. And you can see a class. You can even get a free class.

| We did classes at Petsmart. We had a wonderful trainer and she was available for questions anytime. We did 3 classes and Maggie is now a Canine Good Citizen! Having them do class at the store during business hours helps them get use to distractions they'd come across when out on walks or in other public areas. They get use to other people and dogs around and learn to concentrate on what their owners are wanting them to do. |

| I took my dog to petsmart for training. She was the best looking dog there. All the kids with their big dogs wanted to play with Sassy.she had to drop out as she is a good dog anyways. |

| Our local Petsmart had a great basic beginners program. Didn't sell products real, but gave good advice on most issues. Like most places probably depends on the instructor. They finished the intermediate class with the CGC test. The distraction of the customers in the store was great and really taught the pups to focus. Moved on from there for more advanced work, but was a great start! Again, depends on the instructor, of course.
