| Congratulations to Mike, Jilly, and of course Eddie. I think it is just wonderful that you are sharing the healing powers of Yorkies with those in need. I would love to try that someday with Buster but we will definitely have to learn the no lick command.

I imagine some visits may be more challenging with some types of hospital beds way up off the floor. It would be nice when possible for the kids to maybe sit in a patient chair (the recliners).

| Wow. I just read this thread and your article. I think that is just fantastic what you are doing. I would LOVE to have Lucy do something like that. She loves people and kids and loves to be petted. She's not great with other dogs, though, so I'm not sure if she would pass. Anyway, I love reading stories like this and you should be so proud of Eddie and Jillie and yourself!

We have two therapy dogs, a Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix named Finbar and a Yorkie named Wendell. Finbar is a compulsive licker, but fortunately we got certified through a local group that more relaxed criteria than Delta Society's, so this behavior didn't disqualify him. Several of the residents absolutely LOVE being bathed in kisses, but not everyone does likes it (myself included). I would like to be able to give him a no-lick command. What is the command and how did you train her to recognize it? | |

The no-lick training was just like any other trick. I started slow and just worked on it 10-15 mins a day. I put my hand out in a situation where she would normally lick and say "No kisses." The word "no" usually stops her for a second, and the second she stops she gets a treat. Then it's just a matter of repeating until she gets it. It hasn't stopped her from licking altogether. If I don't give the command, she'll lick. But it was enough to get her past that in the test, and I think it will be enough to stop her if someone doesn't want to be licked. Plus I'm continuing to work on it in hopes that I can stop her altogether eventually. Good luck!

| So I am very interested in getting my morkie certified. I was wondering if they were easier on the smaller dogs than the larger dogs at all? |

But even "carried" dogs have to go to the floor for loose leash walking and a stay exercise. They are also petted and held by others. So I'd say it's "easier" but not "easy."
