Hi, I live right outside of Oklahoma City, and was wondering if there was someone here locally that shows their Yorkies. I'm very, very interested in mentoring with someone. My pups right now are good quality pets, but I'd like to eventually have my own pup to place in the show ring.

We watch the dog shows constantly. . . and I get caught up in the excitement, and that's just from watching on TV, lol. Anyway I'm looking for a long time mentor. And of course I'm willing to look for years to find a good quality show animal. I just love

this breed. I hands down think they are the smartest, sweetest, bravest, most beautiful dogs in the world. I'm a writer also, and I'm in the process of putting together a book about Yorkies. The more research I do; the more showing calls out to me.

Hoping someone can point me into the right direction!

Good luck Jess, I have an online mentor sort-of-speak. I have been researching for a few months but once I graduate next month I will be able to pursue this with a passion.

Darn it! I knew I shouldn't have missed that meetup. I had to actually babysit my niece on my birthday, when I had made it clear to everyone that I wanted to go to that meetup this year. I was near to strangling my brother by the time he flew back to Houston. He comes down to 'celebrate my birthday' and ends up making everything about him, and what he wants to do. . .and 'BTW, Jess, you haven't seen your niece in a while. Spend some quality time with her while Mom and Dad take me downtown to see the Memorial!'

I knwo she wants to get together in May again. I was thinking about trying to find a resturant that allows dogs in a outside area amd seeing if everyone was interested.

That would be great! It'd be nice to sit down and have a cup of coffee with everyone. I saw that there was a May Meetup listened; I went ahead and RSVPed. Whenever the next one is; I'm not missing it this time!

I'm gonna step up to the plate here:
The best way to find a mentor is to attend dog shows.....meet and familiarize yourself with them, learn the dogs (this is the only way you can find what your preference is in type). This is the only way you can find a mentor that has been in the show world for the long haul....is well known with a great line and well respected. I am speaking from experience.
