Confused Hair Dye On Yorkies

For those of you who show your Yorkies...Have you ever used hair dye on them?

I've been told that this happens to some Yorkies in the show ring.

I was first questioning to myself if this was even allowed or not? But I guess it's no different than humans in beauty pagents having makeup/body sculpting (implants) etc to improve the over all look.

Yes some people dye dogs for the show ring. But it is NOT ALLOWED!

I think that is disgusting to colour a dogs hair! or a childs hair for that matter. I am a hairdresser and i have a policy on colouring, 14 years old and over only. Thankfully i have never been asked to colour a dogs hair and the answer if asked would most definatley be NO!

The poodle looks adorable. My son did that to HIS hair when he was a rebellious teenager with PERMANENT dye. Boy was I ever upset. I must say he did grow out of that phase and is a very sweet decent 22 year old! LOL

While I was living in Korea I saw many many white dogs with dyed hair. They looked like a rainbow with different color ears and feet. I thought it was really cute but wondered what was used to dye the hair and if it was safe? I hope it was safe for the dog.

Default dying

I used to know a poodle breeder who dyed her dogs at Easter. She would dye each one a different color...pink, blue, green, yellow, lavender etc..they looked like Easter eggs..then she invited the neighbor kids to an egg hunt in her backyard.

In a recent competition , I saw a light silver Yorkie turning to a medium steel blue just before entering the ring . Later , I laugh when the handler tried it again to darken the yorkie , poor little one , he almost turned to be purple .

Oh the multi colored poodles for Easter is a cute idea! I bet the kids loved it!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like something I would have went Gah gah for as a kid.......heck I would want to go now!!!!
As for dying hair in competition that hardly seems fair, its misrepresenting the animal isnt it?
But I have to admit when I showed horses a long time ago, I used black on their hoofs to make them showy and shiny. But that was allowed.

lol @ the easter-poos! too funny and cute!! i wish i could dye siri Pink! [safely of course!] but i was kinda curious about in the ring- do the judges allow it? i know Gazou said a lady was trying to darken her yorkie...how exactly? did she dye him right before they went into the ring- i was a little confused...and is silver not a desirable color?
i agree with the other person that said its misrepresentation. in beauty pageants the girls arent being judged on who has the best hair color, teeth and temperment so i think while the contests are along the same lines, dying your yorkie to better match the breed standard wwould be misrepresentation? jmo

No, judges do not allow it, if you are caught with a dog that they know is dyed the dog is excued from that match. If your dog is excused 3 times you can no longer show that dog. Some people are so desperate to win that if they know a judge likes a darker dog than they have, or a lighter one, they will try dying it.

Whats the fun of winning if you cheat?
There is no glory in that. What would make someone that desperate to win?
I would rather lose and give an honest try then win under deception.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?! Yorkies are called "moving gorgeous gems" in Japanese.... They are beautiful as how they are.. So much competition .. if people really do that. Well.. then humans do that too.. but.. in this case.. it is like cheating..

that is because the win means more to them than anything else, and they don't care what they have to do to win.
