| PETA at Westminster I really don't understand why Peta continues to target show exhibitors and events. Our club and many like it spend thousands on our rescue efforts. Our club just paid well over one thousand to fix a broken leg on a rescue Yorkie. Where are they? They spend more on advertising and causing disruptions than they do on actually helping animals in need. Why not spend that money on spay and neutering for the poor who can't afford it. Why not go to shelters and adopt the dogs and place them for free in loving homes or create more "NO KILL SHELTERS". The AKC spends more and does more for the welfare of dogs in need than PETA ever has. They are truly misguided and ignorant. Check out these links...JMO "PETA put your money where your mouth is". "http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ http://deceiver.com/2008/01/21/peta-kills-animals/ These are just a few sites. There are many more like it. Again this is just my opinion. Pam |

Some think because of the good things PETA does they should be supported and their radical tactics are okay. But if PETA is successful and has their way, eventually NO ONE will own a pet, eat a steak or own a pair of leather shoes.

I don't think people really grasp just how big and powerful PETA really is. They are a huge special interest group and believe it or not, they have the money to support the congressmen that supports their views to get their agenda pushed through congress. Supporters will tell you that this statement (above) is made out of fear, but for all the research that shows the good they do, there is plenty to support their "real" agenda.

| PETA gone too far? These PETA people make me sick! After they insulted the Duggar's that was the last straw! Now I personally think 20 kids is kinda gross and definitely not my cup of tea but what business does PETA have to ridicule grown-up,self supporting folks who want to have lots of kids,as long as i do not have to support them i don't care!! And do not even get me started on skankey hoochie Pamela Anderson! EEEEWWWW! Not to mention the Catholic church! How low will these people go? Very scary indeed!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I support Animal Rights Activism. I am *proud* of that fact. I also support Animal Welfare, Rescues, Sanctuaries and Shelters. I also have *ZERO* interest in putting an end to pet ownership. I also support ETHICAL breeders. {guess this makes me an ignorant, misguided, awful being who wants to snuff out all pets and breeders...} I don't eat meat, but will cook it for others, such as my husband - bc that is *his* choice. As for PETA at dog-shows, first and foremost you have to confirm that it is actually *them*. Because, did you know that the anti-PETA folks are posing as PETA folks and going to dog shows, only to foster hate? That some of the worst so-called "PETA" folks at dog-shows were actually not PETA people, but members of anti-PETA groups? Please be aware of that. Otherwise, please know that I, personally, support ethical breeding. If I was a breeder, I would probably be irritated as all heck if PETA was at a dog-show, protesting breeding - I understand. But, to a certain extent, I believe they also have a right to be there...whether I agree with them or not. I believe if they have a "booth" (or whatever?), they must remain quiet, like anyone else would be required, and must not be allowed to approach any of the animals whatsoever, etcetera. If they are protesting outside, they have to follow the laws, just like any other Americans who want to protest something. As for the whole "Peta-Kills" thing...guess I'll copy last week's post into here... *PETA euthanized ~21,000 animals in 10 years *To compare, my county alone, Maricopa county euthanized ~530,000 animals in 10 years *Both organizations follow the Asilomar Accords, which defines how to decide which animals should be euth. or not HERE and HERE are some examples of pictures of the animals PETA euthanized (WARNING, graphic). So, using your logic - are you saying that I/we should boycott (not support) our local Humane Associations and their spay neuter programs bc, for example, my local association KILLS ANIMALS - in fact, 53,000 annually? Bc really, I honestly have never understood this line of thinking (this particular PETA kills animals argument). Are you also saying that these animals (the ones I linked to) should have been forced to stay alive and suffer? That it was cruel to end their suffering?

| I cannot imagine my life without my babies. After a spinal cord injury 2004 that left both feet paralyzed, severe pain and a scar from my shoulders to my lower back, it was devastating. I was alone during the day, completely depressed and hardly got out of bed. My life was completely different and I felt so alone. Even with a wonderful husband and understanding children I still spent all day with despair and depression. My entire life I was a very competitive person, my husband and I played golf, tennis, bowling and co-ed softball. Then after the accident everything changed. I have an implant in my back for pain and braces on both legs. While talking with a therapist she suggested I find a way to get an outlet for that competitive nature I had. Find a hobby or activity to fulfill that desire and give me a reason to get my butt out of that bed everyday. So incomes the Yorkies. I cannot put into words the joy I find with the love from my babies. It gives me a reason to get out of bed. The competitive drive I have is fulfilled by working their coats and taking them to shows and seeing them strut in the ring. My life is full again and I have found such joy again. Showing my Yorkies myself is still difficult at times due to pain and walking difficulties but it is worth it. I may never ever win a ribbon or finish a dog but the joy it has brought to my life is worth every single minute. I know others feel very passionate about their dogs also. The wonderful work of therapy dogs and dogs thats assist the disabled is priceless. Why would PETA want to take that from someone. I know there are people out there who are cruel and inhumane to animals, that is very real. Why not target them? Simply put "My Yorkies bring joy and a since of purpose" Nobody will ever take that from me........EVER! |

| Please don't be misunderstood. I am not calling anyone ignorant, AND, I do not judge anyone for being a supporter for PETA, just as I do not want to be judged for not being a supporter, nor will I apologize for it. I fully support ethical and humane treatment of animals and animal welfare. I do support rescues too. I feel the same way many do in that regard. I do not need a huge special interest group with an agenda in congress to do so. My reasons for not supporting them has nothing to do with how many animals are euthanized each year.

I think if they are allowed to have a booth or table at a dog show, that's ridiculous. If you want to support the welfare of dogs, support free neuter/spay and support your local shelter. Don't give your money to PETA. | |
