| New Yorkie won't eat. My wife and I just bought a new Yorkie today. We named her Katia. She was very timid while we held her at the place we bought her but by the time we got her to the car she was fine. We brought her home and she seems to be very comfy. Playing with toys, us, etc. We have had her now for about 6 hours and have tried to feed her the food the breeder has been feeding her but she doesn't seem interested in that or water. Anything I can do? Thanks. btw, she is 8 weeks old. |

| This happened to Bella when she came home too. I had to hand feed her. Maybe try some chicken baby food. I had to pull it out with my finger the first day and let her lick if off me. It was like this for about 3 days as she adjusted Be sure to give her Nutrical too!!

| You can get Nutrical it at any petstore (it comes in a tube like toothpaste). I gave Bella about 1 inch night and day, they just lick it off your finger. It gives them nutrients and also stimulates their appetite. I still give it to her in the morning. Also if the baby food won't work, try mixing some cottage cheese in with their food. We also did this for Bella for the 1st couple weeks. We used to give her dry food, Cesar's puppy wet and cottage cheese. Eventually we moved to a premium food but this worked to get her to eat. Oh and after we stopped feeding her by hand, she wouldn't eat out of a bowl but instead would eat off a small plate (like a saucer) - not sure why? Good Luck

| Also, and I know this might sound silly, but when I first got Bella she was the same way, if you put pieces of the kibble on the floor for them to eat, sometimes they will, instead of in a bowl. Don't know why, but she liked it that way and it worked. |

| Let me tell you Mojo, nothing sounds silly at this point. I'm so scared of doing something wrong. Now I know how new parents of human babies feel. My wife went to get some nutrical but the food on the floor trick seems to be doing it. She's not satisfied unless she has to chase the food down it seems. I just don't know how much is too little or too much or just right. Thanks for the help people. I have been visiting this site for the past week just reading up before I got my dog and I think I'm in the know for the most part. |

| When I brought Polly home, my vet said to just give her 1 cc of Kayro syrup everytime I feed her. She loves it. Polly is small at 12 wks she weighs 1lb 5oz. I had the nutrical, but have heard if you give them to much it can cause them to have loose bowls. I worried about all three of mine, because they are so small. Polly eats the best when I hand feed her, have had her almost 3 wks. Katia is a cute name. I also cut the dry food in a few peices and it seems she would eat more since she didn't have to chew as much.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | The same thing is going on with our new puppy tucker. we just got him today too. He's been drinking but not eating. With our old puppy we wet the food in hot water for 5 minutes to make it easier for him to chew we haven't tried that with Tucker yet. good luck!! |

| Our day of 'tough love' went well. I took the suggestion to wet her food and she gulped it right down. Apparently wetting it (with hot water) creates an aroma that appeals to her. So - she's eaten well at all of her meals since yesterday. WOO HOO!! |

| Welcome to you and Katia! I'm wondering how she is doing today and if she decided to eat. I'm thinking she just needed to adjust and will find her appitite if she hasn't already. Good luck!

| I had the same problem too when I brought Ralphie home.I got something which I think is easier to give than Nutracal. Its fructose ( like sugar water) in a syringe. It goes down like water, and Ralphie took to it easier than the Neutracal, which he turned his nose up on.The vet just put some in a plastic syringe, and I have it in case I need it, Like stressful situations.

| It's been a day and just wanting to know how your Katia is doing? Sometimes the excitement of a new home can make a Yorkie forget he/she needs or even wants to eat. There's just too much other fun stuff to do. Yet, us as doggie parents realize what's best for them and that is to remind them and show them as you "heah, time for food so c'mon let's eat please". Hang in there and keep trying. Gerber jarred chicken sticks, cottage cheese, plain yogurt, boiled chicken or livers are good. Plain macaroni can help too. No matter how often I read a title "My Yorkie wont eat", I still tremble. I too have been there with my first Yorkie. The Nutrical is a wonderful product.... Sometimes if the lack of appetite continues for days and days there might be a underlying problem so please check with your vet for the best care or advise. Keep us posted...
