| Want to talk about RAW FOOD DIET? I am always on the quest to feed Roxy and TJ the best possible. When I got them from the breeder they were being feed Eukanuba, with a tiny bit of cooked chicken, and some honey drizzled on top. This was 2 years ago and it didn't last long. I switched to many many different high quality kibble. I had some issues with TJ (IBD) and I had to give him meds and needed to use a wet dog food too! Then ontop of it all, they became very picky. I then started to cook for them: 90% boilf groun beef, boiled lamb, brown rice, spianch, green beans, carrots, lentils, etc...They really seemed to enjoy this food. But I always came back to the same problem - POOP EATING There is no need to suggest to me what I can give them to stop eatting poop, b/c believe me, for 2 years I have been trying everything under the sun and while some things work for others, my 2 are in such a 'habit' that it doesn't matter what I do to make the poop taste worst, they will still go for it. Until, I started to feed a Raw Food Diet. They have been eating Nature's Variety Raw Frozen since March 2007. They like the rabbit, beef, lamb and vension (don't care for chicken or turkey). They like to eat it frozen, so I take out a mediallion and let it sit on the granite countertop for 5 mins, so that the one side defrosts just enough for me to be able to cut it up into bit size pieces. I cut it up into about 12 little pieces and they gobble it right up! I also feed them steamed string beans (just b/c they absolutly love them), 1/2 sardine a day (with some more fish oil, a bug off garlic tab and a gluoclosime tab). One day a week they get an omlete (one whole organic cage free brown egg with the extra omega 3, spinach, green beans, 1/4 tps. of the egg shells) Their Poops are really really small, and non appealing to them. They haven't completely stopped, they still seem to taste the poop, but then leave it alone. And after a few mins. of the poop sitting there, it turns to white and it flakey. So, I think that I am finally combating the poop eating. Here's my concerns though...With all the recalls going on, I just don't trust any dog food company and I am at such a conflict, b/c as much as I would love to feed real raw human food, I just can't. I am too paranoid about the bones. Roxy and TJ are so small and Roxy has CT and I just don't have the time to sit and either hold the bone for them to eat nor do I have the time to give them a really good cleaning after their hair has been all over raw meat. And mine like it frozen. Here's another company that I might be interested in: http://www.morigins.com/default.htm Has anyone ever heard of it? Does anyone make their own frozen ground up patties? I might be interested in learning how to make my own, this way I can use human food and make little frozen patties. Sorry for the long post, I am just in such a conflciting state. I want to keep with the raw way, but I have to find a way that works for us |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Interesting ... we've always gone the homecooked route for Ozzie -- and now his two cat brothers eat the same, along with daily crunchies. I did see some ads for new stuff in the freezer case but didn't try it. Is that what the stuff is? We've always made patties (ground chuck or ground round) and frozen them -- but then cooked them to be mixed with other meats and/or veggies before feeding it. As for making your own patties, I would be concerned about giving them raw, red meat. (I know, I know. That's what dogs in the wild eat.) IMHO you avoid the recall scare with wheat gluten and then set yourself up for e coli, salmonella or the like! You could probably cook and then FREEZE them. Maybe they'd still eat it then. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yeah, that's a rough dilemma. Although, we had a poop-eater for almost three years. Tried all the suggestions and products we could. Nothing worked. Then one day ... he just stopped. Until I found YT a few months back, I had no idea this was such a prevalent thing. (Our first Yorkie never did it.) Here's hoping your two will grow out of it! |

| Try doing some research on BARF - Bones and Raw Foods. I work with a rescue that totally supports BARF. Here's a website to check out with Dr. Francis Pottenger's studies. http://www.animalfood.com/articles/D...wNutrition.pdf good luck!!

| I feed Banjo half and half. Half raw and half kibbles. I mix ground beef, with oilive oil, oatmeal, peanut butter. If I have left over brown rice I put that in their too. Mix it all up and put it in little baggies in the freezer. I give him this for his evening meal. He loves it. I often give him sardines in soy oil and mix it with his kibbles too. |

| I feed both of mine raw, but the baby gets candidae kibble as well for some extra carbs that puppies need. I use Bravo brand raw food-it comes in a "chub" which is just a meat roll, kind of like how they sell sausage and graound beef at the grocery store. It has meat, organs, bones and some vegetables all mised in. We have them on a base diet of chicken and turkey with beef, pork, venison, quail, and lamb mixed in here and there. They eat better than we do! Anywho, once we get our months supply of chubs and thaw then a bit, we spend about thirty minutes separating about one cup into little baggies and then we freeze those. Then all we have to do is pull out bags as we need them for meals. I will usually put out 4 bags at a time into the fridge, that will give us two days worth of food. Its actually very easy and works for us! Last edited by eringabrielle; 05-10-2007 at 10:48 AM. Reason: forgot to add that the bones in the food are super small chunks.... |

| I picked up 2.5 lb log from the local distributer for mOrgins http://www.morigins.com/default.htm I think that I might like this company b/c she makes it herself (not some big manufacturer) and I feel pretty confident that the appropriate ingredients are being used. The distributer I got it from uses it too and she told me that Laurie is extremely particular and she always wants everything to be fresh. I wanted to go with something that doesn't have veggies or grains. So far I fed a little last night and again this morning. They liked it |

| I'm sorry about TJ having IBD. What kind of treatment do they use for that in dogs? I've have IBD (Crohn's Disease) for 29 years now and am just curious. I've just switched Jake to a fresh refrigerated puppy food made by "Homestyle Selects". He absolutely LOVES it! I like that it has all fresh ingredients and doesn't even smell like dog food. Here is the link if you're interested in checking it out: http://www.homestyleselect.com/ |

| You're never supposed to mix raw with any kind of kibble. It has something to do with bacteria. People who feed raw and kibble should be seperating the meals by a minimum of 8 hours....kibble in the morning...raw at night or vice versa.
