| White Spots on new puppy's chest Hey there! My yorkie female just had two pups, a boy and a girl. However, the boy has a white spot on his chest. Is that an indication that there is a genetic defect? My friend bred to this stud a year ago and a year later one of the new puppy owners called and said that her pup has Addison's Disease. I had already bred to that same stud when I found out this info! I really wanted to keep a female, as I bred my female to have a companion. But it's still not certain if the stud has the genetic defect or her female had it. Please Help! I really want to keep this little girl, but don't want the heartache later. Thank you! |

| Thank you! Thank you soo much for your fast reply. This makes me feel a whole lot better! I now know that I can get attached to my little girl and have no worries. She didn't have any white spots though, just the male did. Does anyone know if there's any kind of genetic test for puppies?? |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | The white patch means that the pup will, as an adult, have a large amount of hair....but not necessarily good quality hair. Just remember...white patch = quantity NOT quality.

| If you suspect your puppies have the predisposition for a disease or condition it is your ethical obligation to keep them or warn potential buyers. First you need to find out if Addisons is genetic, so you'll need to do some research online and contact your vet. If you mean a white spot of hair, that is a fault in the show ring, and no dog throwing pups that aren't confirmationally correct should be bred. Your dog, the stud, and the puppies should be spayed/nuetered to prevent this from happening again.

| white Tell that to the remaining "Wildweir" sister...she might have a few choice words for anyone who thinks a patch of white on the chest in a bad thing..it is not..infact I perfer it..ususally have a very nice silk... White on the saddle is not acceptable, but a white patch on the chest is very common..it blends as the coats grows and is gone into the gold in short measure... IT is best to read what is acceptable instead of posting untrue facts...this is common knowledge to anyone who has read any Yorkie book beyond chapter 2. |

| Addison's Addison's is thought to be an auto immune problem..one caused can be over vaccinating..that is why many vets are suggesting a change in yearly boosters.. Also, there is secondary Addison's that occurs when a dog has been receiving a steroid..say for allergic skins problems..then the owner suddenly stops the meds..they can be thrown into full blown Addison's..so we can not always blame the breeder for these things... |

| Jumping in here but I dont think she is saying either. The small white patch on the chest is normal at birth. It fades into gold as stated. It isn't a sign of anything but possible coat characteristics when born with it. It has nothing to do with Addison's or a defect, genetic or otherwise. The other suggestions for addisons are valid...Good luck with your pups. Kristie |
