| Bowl of Food in Bed Angel is 5 months old and is on Nutro Max Mini Chunk, which is what the breeders were feeding her. She is not readily eating her meals. We were told we could put a few grains of rice in it to coax her. This sometimes works but not always. She will sniff it and just eats the rice. I picked her up on the weekend from the breeders, and they said she could still be adjusting so that's why she's not eating. Well, I found out today that she has giardia. I don't know if this is another reason why she's not eating. Anyway, I've tried jiggling the bowl or throwing her kibble on the ground for her to eat. Sometimes the latter works. I just put her ceramic bowl in her bed for dinner tonight and she started to eat. Is it okay to do this? When she does eat, she sometimes takes a kibble from the bowl on the ground to her bed. It seems to be her favourite spot. It's frustrating that she's not eating and has to have something on it before she eats but then she doesn't always eat. The only times she'll definitely eat is when she gets the deli meat. I also got a can of Nutro Max Puppy from the breeders for teething. She'll definitely eat her food if that's mixed in. This is her feeding schedule (Something is usually mixed w/ Kibble): 8:00 a.m. Kibble 12:00 p.m. A few pieces of Professor Connor's Deli Fresh meat 2:00 p.m. Kibble 6:00-7:00 p.m. Kibble Is it common for Yorkies to drink after they eat as she doesn't? | diet If your Yorkie is active, alert, pooping, then she is getting enough food. At her age, they can lose interest in 3 meals per day...I free feed until about 6/8 months..then give AM/PM meals...with a noon snack..Science TD or Iams bisquit. If she is peeing,, she is drinking enough water...good luck |

I know it is frustrating and causes much worry, but if Angel is drinking water and peeing and pooping and has plenty of energy then she is eating. She might be a "closet" eater and you just don't see her eat. Peppy would would "hide his kibble" and then would go back when no one was looking and eat it. Maybe it would help reassure you to weigh her regularly, as well.

Thanks for your responses. She does pee and poo. She sometimes poos 3 times a day but on Mon. she only did once, which is when I took her stool sample to the vet's. The breeder said to free feed her for the first 3 days and then take the food away after an hour and a half. She said to continue the 3 meals until Angel is 8 months old. The vet said that Angel may be getting enough food from 2 meals a day so she may not need the 2 p.m. meal at this age. I told the breeder this, and she said she may be scared, which is why she isn't eating. She said to continue the 2 p.m. meal for 3-4 weeks, and if Angel still doesn't eat, then I can stop it. I'm in the same room as her so I see whether she eats or not. I'm just worried that if she doesn't eat within the hour and a half and I'm supposed to take the food away, she won't be eating enough.

I trust the breeder, but it's confusing because the vet and breeder say different things about various topics. I figure the breeder knows her dogs best so I follow her advice/recommendations. Angel's food and water are in her pen. Sometimes she will just whine/whimper while looking at me but I ignore her and she will go to her bed and lie down after a while. Even if I leave the room, she will do the same or whine/whimper more but SOMETIMES she'll eat. I'm just worried that if she doesn't eat within the hour and a half and I'm supposed to take the food away, she won't be eating enough. What do you use to weigh them?

Is Nutro Max a good brand of dog food? The breeder says it is a good well balanced meal and she has found it very good for her dogs. Angel's vet says it's not the best choice of dog food but it's economical and some breeders have so many dogs so it saves them money. The vet says Hill's is a good brand, which is what she feeds her dogs. When I gave Angel her kibble w/ rice this morning, she only ate the rice and only ate about 2 pieces of kibble. Her last meal was around 6:30 p.m. the day before. I always put 40 pieces of kibble in her bowl when I add rice. I don't know if I should just mix Nutro Max soft food w/ her kibble all the time to make sure she eats. I add the soft food for dinner. When I put the soft food in, I only put 30 pieces of kibble in her bowl and she always finishes most of her food. Do you think she's a picky eater? Last edited by DJ30; 06-19-2006 at 07:35 AM.

Rocky will not eat unless I put it in the crate with him. If I put his bowl down by his water, he will start eating, but then gets distracted and forgets that he was eating dinner. He get his food at 6:00 am and 7:00 pm, and I only let it set out for about 30-45 minutes. He has learned that I better eat because mom is going to take it away in a little bit. He also get treats during the day when we are training.

Rocky is 10 months old and 5 lbs. I feed him about a 3/4 cup of food each time, but he does not always eat all of it, so the food gets recycled. When, he was little he would about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of dry food w/ a little bit of wet food.

Kali is 13 wks. old. I have had since she was 8 wks. She weighed 1.4 lbs. when I got her and she now weighs 1.12 lbs. She eats Nutro Natural Lamb & rice puppy (soft) 3 times a day. She gets about 1 teaspoon and I warm it up. She also gets royal canine puppy kibbles. (this is left out 24/7). The more active she is the more kibbles she eats. I have never had a problem with her eating.

I've been having problems with Angel eating her kibble again this past week. The soft food used to guarantee she would eat the kibble, but now she sometimes just eats the soft food. I put about 1 tsp. mixed in with the kibble, which isn't much if she's only eating that. I tried putting rice in too, and she only ate the rice. Should I just feed her soft food? Maybe her teeth are bothering her as she's teething and that's why she's not eating the kibble? I even soften the kibble with water, but that doesn't seem to help anymore. I stopped the Professor Connor's Deli Fresh meat because the roll is too big and it would get wasted. I bought her the Rollover dog food roll in chicken flavour (230 g) but I haven't given it to her yet: https://www.businessvision.net/edge/...duct&SKU=TR138 and http://www.renspets.com/mm5/merchant...=&range_high=). Angel is 2 lb. 15 oz. (almost 3 lb.). The soft food I feed her is Nutro Max Puppy, Chicken, Lamb and Rice formula in the small can: http://www.nutroproducts.com/maxcanpuppy.asp. Should I follow the feeding guidelines from the site? Thanks! Last edited by DJ30; 07-24-2006 at 07:57 AM.
